New Poe and the Big Show!

The Professor is quite busy. He presented his Weirdo Show at the HUGE City Paper Crafty Bastards Festival (with Silver Raven, Belladonna, Mab, and L'il Dutch, as well as doing a Benefit Show for the Humane Society, in addition to his regular monthly Palace of Wonders Show, plus MC'ing the Flights of Fire Show, all in the month of September! In October, the Weirdo Show returned to it's Third Thursday of the month schedule, and opened for none other than Trixie Little & The Evil Hate Monkey in Baltimore at the Ottobar on the 19th! We shares the stage not only with T&M, but the amazing Dr. Lukki, and the delightful Doctor Donut (all NY-based), as well as the brilliant Paco from DC. I can see how walking on in front of 500 screaming, adoring fans can be addictive. Representing the Weirdo contingent were Sprocket talking, Spookarama melting down, Shortstaxx doing Ramones burlesque, Greggy Giltterama singing his inimitable "It's All Too Much," Moira Lee flying on the aerial silks In addition to his regular Weirdo Shows of June 21 and July 20, the Professor also presented his unique blend of variety, vaudeville, burlesque and circus arts at the Palace of Wonders Anniversary Show! A galaxy of stars will descend on DC for the occasion (including Todd Robins, Zeroboy, Peekaboo Pointe, Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey, Albert Cadabra, and others), all presided over by the famous Scotty the Blue Bunny!

Just got back from a week in NYC. Saw a lot of great friends, saw a lotta great shows, ate a whole bunch of good/bad food. It's kinda cool to be a tourist in a city you lived a good part of your life in! BUT... The real reason for going was the Coney Island Gala -- and whatta success it was! You may know that good ol' Coney has been rezoned for condos and casinos, and that Sideshows by the Seashore, Dino's Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone, and every link with Coney's ilustrious past was threatened. Well, the fundraiser met 150% of it's goal (!) and will insure that four or five buildings will be preserved with Historical Landmark status. But the biggest news of all is that "we" (as Dick always says) now OWN the historic Child's Restaurant Building (the administration can surprise you sometimes)! This means Sideshows by the Seashore, The Coney Island Museum, Sideshow School, C.I. Burlesque, C.I. Film Festival and the Mermaid Parade are here to stay! Second trip to Coney to visit Sideshows by the Seashore, and even do a little Bally. Will be returning to C.I. in November for Sideshow School! There may be new condos in Coney, but there will also be Carnies! "We" Will Be in Coney FOREVER!

John donned one of his many aliases to make a surprise appearance in the Washington premier of "The Super Secret Show" straight from it's sold-out Baltimore run. Espoinage. Intrigue. Danger. Striptease. A crime has been committed that threatens to ruin burlesque FOREVER.
Starring the award-winning acrobatic burlesque duo Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey, and special stars from NYC Dr. Lucky and Bradford Scobie! Only 4 Performances in DC: Wednesday July 25 10:30 pm, Friday July 27 5:30 pm, Saturday July 28 NOON, Sunday July 29 9:00 pm. The latest script is finally out the door! I'll be adapting and directing my version of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" for the world's largest Poe birthday celebration. Despite some rather gruesome imagery, I think it's a delightful little piece. After some shakeup, we have assembled a world-class cast. We're pushing through the Table of Contents here, folk, and it is a personal mission of mine to go beyond the usual expectations of the master of the horror story. He considered himself first and foremost a poet, he was America's most influential literary critic, he invented both the Detective and Science Fiction genres, was a profound theosophist, and talked about black holes, dark energy, the expanding universe and the big-bang theory (in 1847!) Firstly, we presented a non-naturalist interpretation of Poe's transrational "The Fall of the House of Usher." and Last year, we presented the philosophical "Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar," incorporating both "Mesmeric Revelation" and Eureka." Now we're going to stage one of his most famous creations -- the detective story and C. August Dupin. Nothing at all against his tales of terror, in fact we've done all done his poems, "Tell Tale Heart," "Black Cat," etc. but we've seen that and there's just so so much to know about Poe...
