construction is a bad field to be in right now. i've got other ways of making ends meet but it's frustrating because carpentry is really an all or nothing trade. either the market is booming and they want you to work overtime all the time, or the market sucks and there's hardly any work at all. so earlier this year, i was going crazy, working 60 hours a week and i hardly had any time to do the things i like. if i had the time, i was beat and i just wanted to eat and go to bed early. you can turn down overtime, but eventually they lay you off if you do that too much and they replace you with someone who will take it.
so here i am now, officially 1 year from becoming vested and there's no work in my trade. i want to buy a house, i want to leave eastern ct, but i am stuck here until i am vested in my union. if i left now i'd be throwing away the pension credits that i've worked so diligently to earn.
so i've just registered for a class to get certified as a personal fitness trainer. i've been working out for 8 years and i do MMA, and i know more about working out than some personal trainers who worked at the gyms i've been going to. this will be good because i can manage my time better and get into the gym more often. plus, i like being able to set my own schedule with clients. it'll also help when i go back to finish my tattooing apprenticeship because then it will be much easier to manage my time.
...right now i'm helping my dad with firewood on his farm alot and once i get my stash of wood split, i plan on selling some on the side too.
....so, yes ladies and gentlemen, i am a true new englander, and the yankee spirit of self-sufficiency is in full effect. anybody wanna buy some nutmeg (haha...it's a connecticut thing)?
at jiu-jitsu class there's this funny little kid whose mom works at the chinese restaurant next door. we call him chicken nuggets because that's what he said when we asked him his name. i feel kind of bad for the kid because he's there until 10 or 11 at night sometimes and he's only 5 years old. usually he behaves well and sits in the chairs and watches us but sometimes he's just being a kid and he goes around touching things he's not supposed to touch. we joke around with the little guy him. he's funny because he's really bold and he walks in like he's a hot shot with a big time job at the restaurant next door. sometimes chicken nuggets pretends to take our order, but most of the time he's just trying to entertain himself.
most recently, the owner of the martial arts school has been having his band practice there on sundays. chicken nuggets walked in, sat down on the drums and started playing. this band. sorry, chicken nuggets isn't in this video.... but i am
