i saw the dropkick murphys on friday with nina_kova. the place was packed and people kept bumping into us. one guy was just shoving his way through the crowd and as he shoved by me i turned around and shoved him. then he stopped and looked at me and then just walked away. i love being big and intimidating. it's a concert and people shove, but i have every right to shove back.
so we went up to the balcony and watched the rest of the show. DKM have really come a long way since i first saw them back in 96 or 97 when they were playing iin front of 50 people at a $6 show.
they also played with this band called the horrorpops and i wanted to heckle them so bad because they had choreographed back up dancers and the guitar player had some stupid psychobilly hairdo and they were all wearing punk clothes that you could buy at the mall. and i don't say this too often because it's overused to the point where people over-criticize people who even imply it, but THAT'S NOT PUNK ROCK.
...but then the music kinda grew on me and i thought it was catchy, so i didn't heckle them like an asshole. so i just sat there and enjoyed it (shhhh.... don't tell anyone). i like psychobilly/rockabilly music, but i think the style is just really corny. pompadours, tattoos of flaming card with brass knuckles in front of them, buddy holly glasses, the cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve, people who try to look like mike ness and pose for pictures while playing pool.... it's like a bunch of fashion punks who decided they were too grown up for punk rock and went to do the same things with rockabilly.
