Edited Sep. 2006 - Guess what? I never realized this was a blog, I thought it was an About Me... lol. I'm gonna leave it as is...
-----------------------------------------------------
My real name is Rod, but my much cooler fake name is joe cool. (More on that later.) I'm a California-based fashion photographer working under the name of Visions Photography of California (myspace.com/VisionsPhotographyOfCa). My work can also been seen at OneModelPlace.com/rmvanbeek (photographer 105522) and on Model Mayhem (photographer 77577). I also work in the music industry - I own a concert sound, lighting and staging company. I'm also a musician (guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocalist) and I've done quite a bit of studio recording.
The nickname "joe cool" was first attributed to me in the sixth grade. I know this is hard to believe, but I often made myself the center of attention. (A shocker, I know.) I remember enthusiastically reciting an old Cheech and Chong skit for a group of friends, when one of them turned to a new guy, acknowledged me with a nod of his head and said to him, "Joe Cool." You see, Snoopy's imaginary alter-ego Joe Cool was the epitome of someone who thinks he's really damn cool. It just kinda stuck.
For whatever reason a lot of people say I'm the funniest person they know. I'm not sure if they mean "ha ha" funny or "strange" funny... well whichever works for me, I'm all about making people laugh. I have a very high IQ, but I have a shitty short-term memory and I get distracted easily... so I'm a really smart guy who does & says really dumb things a lot. It's charming, really. I'm generous and I care about people way too much. I tend to have women as best friends, especially women that don't care for guys much, they can be a hoot. I'm open minded and have a hard time with people who aren't. Don't tell me you're 100% for or against anything... gimme a percentage. For example tell me your 90% against something and 10% for it, vice versa, whatever, just be able to argue both sides cause there are ALWAYS two sides. Be comfortable with the fact that people believe differently from you and that's ok. Get along with everyone, and try to like them whether they're likeable or not. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Don't say that bands and music artists suck, say they're cool but you don't like em that much. Be honest with yourselves and others. If you don't feel well and a friend needs you, pretend you feel fine and be there for your friend. If something's important to your friend and it's something you don't like, pretend you like it. Make people feel good about themselves, they'll do the same for you.
