So what's new with me?
The only full-time employee we had at the comic store gave his two week notice a few days ago. Well, crap. While I understand that he found a job that offered better pay and benefits, I'm a little pissed off and here's why. A few weeks ago, we asked him to let us know what days he needed off during the summer so that we could plan our vacation. So after bugging him about it for a while, he finally gave us a list. (asking for pretty much every weekend off, but that's another grievance that doesn't matter anymore). So, my problem? He HAD TO KNOW that he might not be working for us this summer! He was obviously looking for something while we were talking about finally being able to get away for a (much needed) vacation. Why didn't he let us know that he was actively looking and, apparently, interviewing for other positions! He knows us! He knows that we wouldn't have bitched him out if we knew he was looking! Instead he waited until we had figured out when we could get away and started planning a trip. We even talked to him about it. Thank goodness we didn't book anything, yet. I had found a trail race in Oregon that I really wanted to do, though.
So thanks, employee, for being quite the dream crusher.
On the bright side, a guy we know found out that we needed another worker and told us he was interested. He could start right away and would work part time when he goes back to school in the fall. I think he could work out, but I wish he had a bit more comic-related knowledge. He has an okay base, but he definitely knows more about the games. Here's hoping everything turns out. Maybe I can still do the Oregon race.
A bit about that: It's on July 29th and is a 50k or 50 mile trail race on the Pacific Crest Trail by Mt Hood. I want to do the 50 mile. It would be my first time doing this distance. My longest so far was the Cross Calgary Ultra last year which was 56km. So, that's about an extra 24km. I could do it.
More on racing... this Saturday I'm running the Footstock marathon in Cochrane. I have to catch the bus at the finish line at 6:45am. Then they bus all the runners 26.2 miles away and we run back.
Right now the weather forecast is for rain and thundershowers on Saturday! At least the thundershowers usually don't show up until the afternoon, and I should be finished by then. I'll post how I did afterwards.
Other races I'll probably do:
Calgary Marathon 26.2 mile - July 9th
Mt. Hood (I hope) 50 mile - July 29th
Cross Calgary Ultra 60km - Aug 12th
Lethbridge Lost Souls Ultra (distance undecided) - Sept. 8
Name that tune!
All the world just stopped now
So you say you don't wanna stay together anymore
Let me take a deep breath babe
If you need me
Me and Neil'll be hangin' out with the dream king
That's all for now.

I thought it was fun. It's egotistical without going over the top.
