i met my ex-boyfriend through an online personals site (that's right! those sometimes actually work!) so before we met, we exhanged about a dozen emails over the course of a week, and i saved all of them, and i was just re-reading them.

i would get just as giddy and giggly now if someone sent me those emails as i did then. i wish more people were better at crafting good text. it matters, you know?

i think that if i wrote a novel at this point, it would center largely around how fucked up your relationships are if your only communication is online. before anyone takes this personally, what i mean is that unless you and the other person are both extremely eloquent, never use sarcasm, and are in perpetually good moods, it's so difficult to maintain a relationship -- romantic OR friendship -- solely online. words without facial expressions or tone of voice, particularly when conveying emotion, don't do the trick. too much of a chance of misunderstanding, misinterpreting.

i don't have the moxie for novel writing. the internet has ruined me. if i have to scroll, i'm clicking out.
