Yesterday the President of the United States of America signed into effect the Military Commissions Act of 2006, bringing an effective end to the right of habeas corpus and basically turning us into a police state. While this act has gotten some media attention, it has yet to be the headline on any newspaper, or the lead story of any news program.

WAKE THE FUCK UP FOLKS! We are now citizens of a country whose government, through the military, has the ability to arrest ANYONE! without charge, and detain them indefinitely!
Hell, I could be arrested for posting this.
For the last five years our own government, under the guise of protecting us from our enemies, has slowly been stripping away the rights and freedoms we've enjoyed as citizens of one of the first modern democracies. And now, at least as long as our current president is in power, and perhaps forever after, we no longer have them.
Think about this. What good is the bill of rights now. If the military can kick in my door and drag me away to jail for no reason at all, what good are my supposed rights to free speech, freedom of worship, and freedom of assembly. And I certainly no longer have the right to a trail of my pears, while being fairly represented. Now it's a military court, with no true evidentiary procedures, and no real presumption of innocence. And of course no real chance to prove innocence either.
Bruce Springsteen wrote "All men want to be rich. Rich men want to be King. And a King ain't satisfied until he rules everything."
All Hail King George!
Or perhaps it should be Sieg Heil!
I urge you all to write your congressmen, to contact your local activist group and offer them your support, and to scream and shout and jump up and down. We all must make the kind of noise that cannot be ignored.
In parting, I leave with famous words from one Martin Niemoller:
"When the Nazis arrested the Communists, I said nothing; after all, I was not a Communist. When they locked up the Social Democrats, I said nothing; after all, I was not a Social Democrat. When they arrested the trade unionists, I said nothing; after all, I was not a trade unionist. When they arrested the Jews, I said nothing; after all, I was not a Jew. When they arrested me, there was no longer anyone who could protest."
