I forgot to say what the abbreviation GRE stands for... GRE stands for Graduate Record Exam... It is a standardized entrance exam for graduate school. It is composed of 30 multiple choice verbal questions, 28 multiple choice quantitative questions, and two essay questions which make up what is know as the analytical writing assessment or AWA. The scale score range for the verbal and quantitative sections is 200 to 800 where 200 is the lowest possible sub test score and 800 is the highest. The verbal and the quantitative scores are combined into an index that is known as the V+Q score. V+Q scores range from a low of 400 to a maximum of 1600. The essay questions which make up the AWA are graded on a separate 0 to 6 scale and then the average of the two essay scores are reported as a single AWA score.

Graduate schools then use GRE scores to determine who will they accept into their Master's Level or Doctorate Level graduate programs. While graduate schools also use a person's GPA as part of the criteria used for graduate schools admission, GRE scores still play an important role in determining who will be accepted into a university's graduate school program.

How well someone must do on the GRE in order to be admitted into graduate school depends upon the graduate school discipline or major that a person is interested in studying; the individual graduate school; and the part of the world where the graduate school is located. For instance, psychology graduate schools in the State of Florida requires a minimum GRE V+Q score of at least 1000. However, Florida psychology graduate school can require a high GRE V+Q score. Finally, scoring the minimum V+Q score does not guarantee admission into a graduate school. It is therefore important to score as high on the GRE as possible.

Well that is it about the GRE.
