listenin to the yeah yeah yeahs through my new bass amp and I can't decide if I want to keep it anymore - - - thinking maybe I'll take advantage of guitar center's 30 day return policy and test out a new amp every month and never keep one. well it's a fender bassman 150 combo and I have a cd player piped through a tube pre to warm everything up and it sounds great. my problem with it however is in the effects loop. It seems to just muddy up my signal and kill my tone. I think there is some kind of limiter on it that disables clipping - - - further testing is required - - - It had all the features that I wanted - a headphone jack for late night jamming, a stereo input, a line out - - - or so I thought - - - the line out didn't work into my beringer acoustisonic line/ instrument input with the stereo input telling me that the input is independent of the preamp and output signals - I should have suspected because turning the eq knobs did nothing to effect the tone of the stereo input.
Also effects pedals that are not used through the effects loop kill the signal of my bass entirely with is annoying because I wasn't happy with the effects loop and hoped to bipass the problem this way.
I need to test including the tube preamp into the effects loop and see if this warms up the signal along with the signal boost that it should provide. If the preamp included in the Bassman 150 prevents the signal boost and my effects clip at really low volumes killing the overal volume and signal the amp is going back tomorrow fo shizz. . . I paid $399 for the amp so I would rather either upgrade and go for something totally amazing or just get something that's decent and cheap.
I do really like the eminence 12" speaker and horn set up that the amp came with - thinking about buying a half stack of these buggers and taking my sweet ass time looking for the appropriate head. I'm wondering if I do this would I be able to use a guitar head through the bass speakers and reap all the beneys of having a guitar amp with out worrying about blowing speakers out - thinking yes but want to ask around
