Tuesday - March 2 2007... a day in the history of James.
Today i was told that am going to be able to stay in the Navy... because of me picking myself back up, sobering up, and doing my best, the Navy has decided that they are not going to medically discharge me for my Ulcerative Colitis, they are letting me stay in even though i can't go to sea, i am going to have to do shore duty... but i can do the time that i promised to do.
Thast year and a month and a day have been miracles, each and everyday. That was day 1 of my sobriety, and since then, not only have i gotten out of trouble, but i made it to NCO, i went from Depression to loving myself, i help others now instead of hurting them. I know how to love. I know how to lead my men... I know how to be a man today.
The Navy has kept me even though I am not at my best, and never can be, i am simply an Alcoholic with Ulcerative Colitis... and while I don't deserve to be kept, I don't care... they think I do, and I am not goin to disabuse them of that notion. I am proud to serve, in whatever way they will let me, and even though i will never see combat, or go to the Sand Box... i can support those who do... i can honour them. they are my Shipmates.
