Being the nerd that I am, I just finished watching Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 and now I'm going to rant about it. It was really designed to be tear-jerkish at the end, but even knowing that I still shed a few tears anyway. Not very manly, but no one has ever accused me of being so much so. I bet I'd be kind of popular in the Heian era, where guys showed emotion as a sign of intelligence and sensitivity, but for that fact that I'm a callous asshole 90% of the time. Anyway, it was fairly moving, the sacrifice that Lelouch made and the hate that he incurred for the sake of the future was very noble in my mind. I was a bit sad to see such a short epilogue as well, although it encompassed the future of many of the main characters. I would have liked to see a tiny bit of redemption given by all the main characters Lelouch once commanded or fought against, and realization at the fact that Lelouch had purposely drawn all the hate in the world onto himself in order for the world to move forward. I know that Kallen and Nunnally recognized his sacrifice and intent / plan, and to some small effect, so did Tohdou and a few others, but were it I in his shoes, I would want my friends to know it more seriously. Not that I would have the ability or conviction to carry out such a plan in the first place, but still. Anyway, the main point of this is that watching it inspired me to write a bit of bad poetry, unpolished as of yet, but still not too bad if I do say so myself. I am aware that it is rather simplistic, but bear in mind that I didn't spend too much time or energy on it, so don't hate too much.
In Memoriam Optimus
I bid you not to shed a tear,
For this, a cruel Tyrant's fate,
Though if you must, I pray it springs,
From Joy rather than Hate.
Govern well, else run the risk,
And pay that price most dear,
Of letting history be written,
Such that you and I compare.
I take with me my legacy,
This eternal well of Evil,
And bequeth to all of you who stay,
An end to Violence and Sorrow.
Since I have gone, I leave to you,
With all its beauty yet unseen,
This world, as an uncut gem,
That hides a Peaceful gleam.
Do not forget the blood we shed,
The friends we have forever lost,
So rule Justly in my stead,
As I prepare the path beyond.
I am not sad to trek ahead,
Nor am I without Love,
I no longer walk this path alone,
Though I smile down from skies above.
With this last breath,
And this last smile,
Know that Death is not my end,
And the future shall bring me my beloved again.
