It seems like it's getting harder and harder to find any good music. The only thing on the horizon that holds any interest is the "Against Me!" album coming out on September 6th, and they've been on a slow-decline since "Reinventing Axle Rose". They aren't bad, they just lost some kind of musical genius in between that album and "As the Eternal Cowboy...". They stopped finessing the music, and started yelling a lot more, with less feeling. So, it is with this sad look forward at the unsatisfying state of music that I dug out a gem today while paging through the gobs of music in my personal library.
Being a big Wilco fan, and a fair-weather Billy Bragg listener, I figured what the hey. The opening track "Walt Whitman's Niece" grabbed me right off, and "California Stars" nearly broke my heart in two. It doesn't happen much anymore, but it's just on repeat as I sit here writing code for my latest freelance project. The album, if you don't know, is the aforementioned musical talents covering Woody Guthrie tunes.
I'm a little bummed that the advance tickets for the September 10th show at CBGB's (Circle Jerks/Adolescents/Channel 3/et. al.) are sold out. We can still get tickets at the door, but it's a little aggravating wondering if we're going to make the pilgrimage for naught. I wouldn't mind the weekend in NYC personally, Nikki's never been there, and Noah's never been there with money. Still, Noah is antsy when it comes to such things.
