My OKCupid A-list membership will expire in four days; I chose not to renew it after seeing that my profile was liked by someone (thing?) who wrote this,
Looking 4 a high profiles only , u hv to be well educated , well living , polite , kind hearted , good looking , very understanding , respectful in ur social life ... on the other hand u MUST hv the highest level of submission and obedience in every aspects of life, not only sexual! ... im looking 4 a long term relationship that leads to marriage under my own conditions ..
if u r time waster, stupid , arrogant , liar or all over the internet offering ur self to every slut then u r NOT welcome and dont u dare to contact me !
That is a literal, word for word quote of what was on the profile, and it's pretty representative of the experience of being an A-lister on OKCupid if you're male: you can see who likes you, and for the most part it's robots with terrible grammar. I paid $60 for that privilege for 6 months, and while I can't say that it was a complete waste of my money, it also wasn't anywhere close to being worth it. The fact that my sexual preferences are, shall we say, specific doesn't help me in terms of dating, but I was surprised at the extent to which that particular service was infested with fake accounts. It really seems like this should not be as big of a problem as it appears to be, and the fact that it is tells me that the site's owners are happy with it the way it is. Clearly they're making enough money so that changing the site to reduce or eliminate the problem isn't a priority. At least, that's how it seems to me.
