Just a quick note to say that I am still alive and kickin'...just been a very busy last four or five days and I've not been able to get around to everyone's blogs like I would like to. I am hoping things will settle down in the next couple days..so don't drop me from your friends list just yet wink

Monday was a crazy day for me...I had a frightening experience at work that I'm still a little freaked out about. Alot of you know that my new job is with a non-profit that works with developmentally disabled adults; we have several group homes in which staff in actively treating them 24/7, in addition to other homes where our staff is available for assistance around the clock, but where the residents have a higher level of functionality. Anyway, Monday afternoon we had a staff member bring in one of the residents to our back office so that he could use the copier...normally the residents stay outside of our working area as many of them have behavioral issues. The front door to the office space is locked with a code, and there is a glass window where we take care of the walk-in traffic...but on this day the resident who came back ended up becoming extremely aggitated, and broke away from his caregiver while I was at a fax machine by them with my supervisor. He saw us there, began wailing at the top of his lungs and came charging up with his pants undone wanting me to fix them for him. When I took a step back, he became even more upset...screaming and wailing louder, and began to beat his head against the wall when the caregiver tried to intervene. Mind you, this is a fully-grown man, at least 6 ft tall and about 220 pounds...who has absolutely no ability to determine what actions are appropriate or not. He dropped to the ground, started kicking and beating on the caregiver who was trying to contain him. We finally got a chance to slip away, and ended up having to hide in my bosses office for almost the whole half an hour it took for enough reinforcements to show up that they could get him out of our work area. Scared the bee-jeeeeezus out of me!! eeek eeek eeek

Later that afternoon, I learned that this particular resident has on more than one occasion beaten a caregiver. The last one had to go to the emergency room after he assaulted her during her graveyard shift at the home. I'm not exactly sure how I am feeling about being there right about now...I really like what I do, and I know that the work they do with the residents is important. I just am not sure how safe I feel in my office now, and am hoping to get some reassurance that this type of incident won't be happening on a regular basis. Otherwise, I may need to seek another position because it's obvious that he could have done a lot more damage than he did.

I've gotta get for now...have to hop in the shower and head to a doctor's appointment. I hope to be back online tonight though, and hopefully get a chance to stop in to Geezers and some blogs.

Much loves to you all~

I use to work with kids and teenagers who were developmentally disabled I know some days can be really rough and you never know what you are going to get. I have been stressed because of work or the lack of it, although I am hoping that this will start to pick up sometime next week. kiss love
