So I promised a proper update on my life back in September, and I'm sort of embarrassed with how long its taken, but here it is! Life has been pretty hectic since my last real post over the summer. Towards the end of August, a good friend of mine and I went to Toronto's Fan Expo. I was disappointed that SG didn't have a booth there this year, but it was still a lot of fun. I got to see Normal Reedus from The Walking Dead, and just a bunch of other cool sci-fi paraphernalia.
Then at the very end of August, I bought my first car! I absolutely love it. Originally, I was going to buy one of my parents older cars, but a couple of days before my dad and I were going to transfer it over to me, my younger brother completely totalled it. He was fine, and I ended up just buying something new so everything worked out!
A couple of days after I bought the car I officially moved to Guelph, which is where I'm about halfway through completing my Masters degree in environmental biology. I got a nice two-bedroom place right downtown with a friend I met at school during my undergrad, and we've been having a blast. I love being in this city, and I love the independence of being out on my own.
My project is going well, I've been using some pretty fancy equipment to help identify some of the ants I captured over the summer during my field season.
I'm having a blessedly-lazy Saturday today. The weather in Guelph is always really chaotic, and it rains several times a week (which I actually love) and today it can't make up its mind about whether it wants to torrentially snow, or be bright and sunny. The city looks really nice right now with the first layer of snow we've gotten so far.
I hope everyone's weekend is going well!
Cheers,
Jess
