Vent Spleen

The "music scene" in Leeds is a load of bollocks. Hypocracy, childishness, A complete lack of communication between people. Leeds Music Scene, the site, is full of small time people, who think they know everyone because they talk to them in a forum. I myself am quite aware of my small-time-ness in the grand scheme of things, I'm no Mean fiddler, but at least I care.

I care about the bands that play for me, I care about the people who come to see the bands, I don't make any money whatsoever from this gig, just the experience, the feel of it, and the friends that come along.

I'm rich, I'm a very rich person, I have no money in my pocket, but I have friends who don't stab me in the back, I have real friends in the real world who will bend over backwards for me, and me for them. I have friends in bands, The Xenith Sound, The Pretty Machine, bands that I think have a future ahead of them, bands who I would bend over backwards to help them make it. Ok, what am I going to do really? I don't have the A+R from Sonys phone Number, but if I so happened to come across it, I would give it to the bands I love, and I would rate them to other people. I don't follow trends in local bands, I don't like This Et Al, iForward Russia!, iLiKETRAiNS, they all sound the same to me. I have a passion for TheMoff and Sheldon. Maybe you don't know who they are, but you should. You hould open your ears and try out new bands.

Too many people in this city stick with what's safe, putting on bands that have had NME coverage, but 'we all hate NME'. Putting on bands that will draw people in, along with your band, or your mates band, who incedentally are just another 'indie'/electro/post-rock band who sound just like the headlining act, your big pullers, as mentioned above. Why should the big bands get bigger, and the small bands get ignored? The music scene is being ruined by too many people supporting the 'safe' bands, I will never put on a band I don't like, not even for the sake of getting a few more people in, why should I encourage more arrogance from the 'safe' bands? Why should I let them over shadow my bands, the ones that I have made every effort to get to play? More to the point, why should I put on a band whos fans leave as soon as the band have played, but only arrived a few moments before? How is that getting exposure to bands?

Support the Real Music Scene. Lets get Leeds out of this music depression.

I have to say NME is even worse than Kerrang! but I've hardly ever read it to be honest. I admire your attitude and your balls for sticking to your conviction and I agree with you about the whole Leeds thing in general, I remember when I could go to the Duchess every week and check out new bands and now it's a fucking Hugo Boss shop or something that just makes me want to vomit.
