This is a rant.
I HATE MEDICARE.
Fuck this socialist fucking propaganda that has raised Canadians to think somehow their system is better because they get "free health care". The key is what free health care? You wanna know?
You get to go to emergency at the hospital and wait 10 hours in pain because they have to treat every hobo that comes in looking for a room for the night. Most hobos have some form of illness to treat so it is pretty easy for them to get in. On top of that; because the hospitals don't want you, the normal people, to see hobos wandering around the waiting room and get uncomfortable- they usually give them rooms immediately. SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?
For example, I once went to emergency with intense abdominal pain; I was put into a hallway on a gurney and given a morphine drip for the 5 hours I waited to see a doctor; then the three other hours I waited to get a CT scan done.
Meanwhile; in the room adjacent to me was a hysterical homeless woman. A doctor spent 1 hour with her telling her how she needs to stop coming back and he is not going to give her drugs.
SHE HAD A ROOM?! WHILE I WAS FORCED TO LIE IN A FUCKING HALLWAY??
And before you get all preachy about how I'm not better than a hobo and maybe some of them are actually sick and need help- WELL GUESS WHAT- I pay taxes; not them. Why should the tax payer sit in a waiting room for x amount of hours while some bum who probably isn't even originally from my province gets treated?
That is bullshit. I don't care how you put it it is fuuucking bullshit.
What else can you expect from your free health care system? Oh yeah, INCOMPETENCE.
These people are much more focused on treating symptoms and getting you the hell outta there then finding the underlying cause of your illness.
When I had gallstones I went to emergency AT LEAST 4 times. 4 times with unbearable abdominal pain. On one occasion I was brought in by ambulance after collapsing at work. Not one doctor I saw thought to order an ultrasound of my abdomen. Two doctors immediately ruled out gallstones by pressing on my stomach; saying they would feel them if I had them.
I eventually went to a private clinic and paid 250 dollars for an ultrasound. They found the gallstones; one of the worst cases they had every seen in an 18 year old.
If you decide to go through your family doctor; rather than go to emergency because your pain isn't so bad get ready to wait; wait; wait and wait some fucking more.
A friend of mine has a cyst. She has a family doctor that she went to see who told her to wait a month to see if the pain went away. After 3 weeks the pain was unbearable and she returned. Her doctor ordered her an ultrasound; the appointment is over a month away. FOR A FUCKING ULTRASOUND PEOPLE. Meanwhile she has some painkillers.
Now here is the thing people; I had a cyst. I went to the hospital in the states.
I was admitted IMMEDIATELY due to the extent of my pain.
Within 30 minutes I had painkillers and an IV drip; bloods had been drawn. Within an hour of that they told me I had some form of infection and started treatment.
I then had a CT scan; and an ultrasound both external and internal.
I left with a prescription for antibiotics and percocets.
NOW WAS THAT SO HARD?! NO. I'm sure that hospital has lots of people to treat too. That emergency room was not empty. So what the fuck is the difference?
MEDICARE was the difference. FUCK medicare.
Finally; and the most heartbreaking to me.
My landlords are an old italian couple. Very old. They have health problems that come with age.
My first complaint... they cannot shower themselves but there is a service that will come to help you- yknow in home care that you do pay something for.
THEY COME ONCE A FUCKING WEEK. WTF. These are human fucking beings. How great would you feel if you only got to shower once a fucking week? This is despicable. FUCKING CHRIST.
Now, the real issue... Ennio had stomach cancer which required an operation last year to remove part of his stomach. During this operation the doctors noticed that he had a hernia. DID THEY FIX IT?! DID THEY INFORM THE FAMILY?! NO NO NO. They didn't even bother to tell him!!! They just sent him home. INFACT THEY SENT HIM HOME FROM FUCKING STOMACH SURGERY THE SAME FUCKING DAY. WHAAAAAAAAT?!
So this year comes around and it is time for his physical but he is in TOO MUCH PAIN TO DO IT. OHHH SAYS THE DOCTOR OOHH YEAAAH you have a hernia, i forgot about that.
... DESPICABLE.
So they give him some pills for the pain. Yeah, thanks. too little too late if you ask me.
He is out of pain pills now; he looks wretched. This man needs to be in a hospital NOW. He has lost so much weight; he is grimacing constantly. THIS IS NO WAY TO LIVE.
And finally, the best part of the story: his surgery will not take place till late july or august; OR ORRR UP TO SIX MONTHS FROM NOW. Apparently there are too many people getting surgery.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AT WHAT POINT THIS SYSTEM IS GOING TO START HELPING THESE PEOPLE?!
I think the fact that he has had the hernia for a year and doctors have known about it should BUMP HIM UP THE FUCKING LIST.
I GOT INTO MY GALLBLADDER SURGERY FASTER THAN THAT FUCK. I COULDA LIVED A BIT LONGER WITH THAT PAIN.
Especially since they are probably going to send him home the same day anyways, I'd like to know WHAT THE FUCK IS THE HOLD UP?!
Oh, and the doctor thinks the cancer may be coming back but they will biopsy during the surgery.
Yeah great; cause by then yknow... it'll have given the cancer some time to progress... oh and of course then you'll have to schedule another surgery possibly to remove the new cancer... so another few months or more.
WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE?!?!
The next time I hear one of my fellow canadians praise this oh so overated BULLSHIT system I'm gonna deck them.
Grow up and admit the truth: the system sucks. You may only find that out when you need it. Then it'll be too damn late.

Yeah, I know how you feel. Although all of the tests were negative except for one that was most likely a false positive, 3 doctors I saw in the hospital said I had c. diff and treated me for it with the meanest antibiotics around. I lost 15 pounds in two weeks! Then I went back to the hospital because of the lack of progress.. finally got a colonoscopy and lo and behold.. NO SIGNS OF C DIFF. Actually, I have infectious colitis which is treated with a simple suppository. Now, my body is so fucked because of the c diff treatments that I'm getting every bad side effect from the suppository (which is nearly identical to aspirin), so I may have to get on steroids. So yeah, eff you Medicare. All the smart doctors ran off to the States.
