Only eight more sleeps until Halloween! My costume idea has changed already, even though I'd just purchased about $100 worth of stuff for my first idea. Argh. I've just been so discouraged in trying to figure out how to make 'Medusa' look good. I had everything from the neck up figured out with some pretty neat ideas for other things... but the majority of the costume was stumping me. Aside from wearing a black toga, I really didn't know what else to do. So that idea goes in the tickle trunk for another year/person. My Halloween tickle trunk is getting to be quite full, I need to purchase another. That's what they're going to call me when I'm old and grey. "Ms. Halloween". I can see it now.
My new neighbors came to us with an idea. They are going to be having a Halloween party for kids, with a spooked up house... and they asked if they could use our "forest". My property backs onto a small patch of forest near the river parallel to their property, so they asked if they could use it to make a spooky forest. We happily obliged, and now that I think about it, I'd really like to help out with that.
When I was growing up, I would always make extremely elaborate decor and displays for trick or treaters, but since I didn't have my own money to use, I would just use things I could make or find around the house. Usually the displays got completely overlooked, because we don't get many trick or treaters to our doorstep because of the long driveway. I wish I had some pictures of it all! My old (length-wise) bedroom window is directly next to the front door, and I would make a graveyard out of my bed with cutouts of tombstones, and bunched up blankets to make them look freshly dug-up. I had a flashlight spinning around on a record player to create a 'strobey' look, and had bats and ghosts tied to my ceiling fan that spun around.
Blah, blah, blah. I don't know why I just went into so much detail there. But I'd almost completely forgotten about that until I started writing this entry.
Pumpkin carving party on Tuesday, I really need to go pick up my pumpkins! I wonder if squash will work. We have a ton of leftover squash from the garden this year, which I doubt is going to get used before it starts to rot. I wish my grampa still did his pumpkin patch. He gave us a MASSIVE pumpkin a few years ago that took Mike, Aaron, Kari and myself a couple of hours to shell, design, and cut. The skin on this pumpkin was probably 4-5 inches thick, and the pumpkin itself was probably near 2 ft tall/wide. It was monstrous. I have pics of that somewhere.
It is my goal next year to grow an insanely, equally as monstrous, pumpkin patch.
A little bit of a wordy update, but I tend to get a little excited around this time of year.

I still have not decided on what I will be dressed up as. In fact I may skip dressing up and just play some pranks on people instead. I have to pay rent plus I must admit I spent most of my fun money for the month when I went to Portland. Shame on me!
When you get your costume ready, show it!
