GuuuuuGH! I know I said before that I wouldn't complain about Cali weather, but let's just say I'm glad to see this heat wave finally winding down. I didn't do anything fun at all this weekend and every moment is like walking around in a sauna. I just want to take off all my clothes all the time! Stupid no-nudity cultural moors. In any event, I had the wonderful blessing of being sick all weekend in this crazy heat wave. My house is old-timey and lacks central AC. So I spent all weekend sprawled, panting, naked, sweating, on my couch with all the fans I have on and pointed at my feverish, snotty, leaky body. It. Was. Hell.
In any event I'm on the mend. The flu has been destroyed by my body and now all I've had to deal with was this unbearable heat, and not being able to be naked all the time. I give thanks to the Old Gods and the New for some respite this coming weekend. My dad and grandma are coming in to visit for a few weeks so I've got to make sure the house is straightened up and the garage is clean and well organized (I have a wood shop in my garage so that when my dad visits he can make furniture and do woodworking). Which will be MUCH easier in 89-90 degree weather than in bawlz-melting 104 degree weather (and my bawlz is done melted).
So that's a quick little update. Still burnin' hard on this little mobile game. Hopin' it sees some success and I can make a million dollars and move to Costa Rica...or Phuket...or someplace on the Mediterranean...someplace I could just be naked all the time. /shrug
In any event we got feedback from Indiecade on our prototype submission. It was basically, "This is a really interesting take on the 'tower defense' genre; and quite a cool concept. The UI needs work. Definitely think about submitting next year."
That was it. A bit anti-climactic, but I kinda' have a feeling that the folks over at Indiecade had a lot of submissions this year and weren't quite equipped to take it all in. Seems like a fly-by-night operation. That said, the feedback isn't bad actually. When we submitted the prototype of our game it was literally the first 4 tutorial levels and 1-2 of the play levels. There was a grip of placeholder or 1st pass art in there, and (as we said with our submission) the barest minimum of placeholder UI. That was also in June. Looking at the build now it is kind of amazing how far we've brought it! It's a fucking game now - tutorials, levels, unlocks, enemies, and even the budding of a complete front end and UI. All of it done by me. Every. Single. Piece. Of Art. Done by me alone; and everything else - tech, coding, level design, optimization - done by my talented partners and associates - just three dudes. I'm pretty proud of that fact, and I believe it looks pretty cool. That said, there is still much to be done! The finish line is just up ahead, but I've got to keep this velocity and pace for the final push!
That's about it here. Figured I'd drop an update before I mosey on off to the "office" (aka - my friend's apartment in Los Feliz) and blessed central AC. Have a very happy hump day and get to humpin'! 'Til next time...
Queen me!
