HAPPY NEWD YEAR!!
already the job opps are rollin' in. the toughest part is trying to time them right. i've got a company that needs me yesterday and has called me in for an interview this morning at 11:30 in hollywood. i'm torn because it's now and it's munny...but Naughty Dog sent me an animation test last week and i've got a few weeks to do it. if they hire me it would be for the cinematics team on (what i'm assuming is) uncharted 3? just a guess though, but still...cinematics animator at a place like naughty dog would be nice and would only give me more cred to eventually get a gig at blizzard. however, from what i hear, this opp at PIC in hwood would go until probably june-ish. i never like to take a gig then bail on it for another gig. so the question is then do i try to buy time to finish this test and hear back from naughty dog (a process that could go well into late january)? OR take the job to get the cash (the savings has dwindled to critical levels) and stick with it til the end. OR take the job, the cash, and bail if/when i get an offer from naughty dog? working crunch hours will seriously cut into my test time and i'd rather focus on it with 110% of my ability rather than be split 50/50 (even 70/30) between full-time contract work and test. i suppose the deciding factors will be a) - project, what is it, is it cool? b) - how long? c) - pay grade? d) - direct deposit or checks?
i suppose that ultimately it's nice to have options. i may just go with this gig and depending on the contract, bail on it if/when i get word from naughty dog.
in any event the holiday was great. went home to colorado to see fam and had a good time. finished up the commission just in time for the holiday and they loved it. all in all the year ended well. this year is already picking up. goals = call/write my family more; send xmas cards; and generally say i love you as much as i can to everyone that matters. also, lock in a full-time job with bennies and the whole 9 inche...er...yards.
that about sums it up! hope everyone's new year is shaping up swimmingly.
