Nights like these are emotionally draining. There are the extreme highs and the extreme lows. The high is that I'm really fucking good at my job -- I found out how to get a very withdrawn teen to open up to me, as long as we were sort of talking in code and not specifically referencing him or his life, when NO OTHER staff member...

I admire what you do even though I can't do it. I have the patience, just not the correct temperament. Thank you for all that you do to help people and remember to take time for yourself...

Heh, yep! I was recently hacked so changed it to a not so realistic name

Nights like these plant a kernel of anger in me that will never go away. There's a relatively new kid in the boys' cottage at work, a 16 year-old who's been pretty withdrawn but is slowly getting better. He has a history of gang involvement, but every time I've spoken to him he's seemed pretty shy and easygoing. I learned tonight that he really doesn't...

These teens at the shelter where I work can curse me out, ignore me, and do all manner of untoward things, but there's one thing they STILL can't do: beat me in basketball.

Ha. You are the man.
And thanks for the note on my last journal. Meant a lot to me, and I appreciate it.

Working in a shelter must be pretty hard work.
At least you somehow have the upper hand haha
You must have spades of patience

I miss Ireland....
desdmonia:
Aww, that was the sweetest testimonial
I've never been to Ireland, but given that the accent makes my panties fall off, I'd like to go someday

Started Krav Maga training today. In addition to the surety that I will be sore as all hell tomorrow, I have no skin on the knuckles of my right hand. None.

Go kick ass...
desdmonia:
Sexy.
I just had a rather long dialogue with only myself on Facebook about the transformations of the OSS into the CIA and the NKVD into the KGB, correcting myself when I realized I had written a date or something incorrectly. Does this mean I'm smart or just really lonely?
desdmonia:
Smart

Someone rather innocuously asked me what I wanted in a woman tonight; I didn't say what I really wanted because they weren't really interested in my answer. If I had, though, I would have said that I want a woman who understands that I've chosen to devote large swaths of my life to staring down some of the worst that humankind has to offer because...

This is beautiful

Made the move to Austin. I start my job on December 3; I'm equally nervous and excited.
Also, I'm vowing to overhaul my wardrobe; it's time to carry myself with some more style.

I don't just cross the line, I paint over it.

I prefer to walk it.
Also, you owe me a poem, sir.

To all the conservatives who were convinced that the billions and billions of dollars spent on Romney's and other conservatives' campaigns (thanks to Citizens United) would essentially buy the election, I have one word: SCOREBOARD.

Virtually nothing changed. Same President. Same party in control of House. Same party in control of Senate. Same bullshit politics.
jekyllandhyde:
It's not so much what changed as what didn't change. If Republicans took control of the government (and Romney was in the Oval Office when a Supreme Court seat opened up), very bad things would have happened. Simply by preventing that from happening, this election was a win.
Also, the ballot initiatives were largely important.
