saturday i went to my wife's 10 year high school reunion. it was a very very odd experience. She went to a pretty small private school, bascially for very wealthy kids, she got in with financial aid and such. my family lives in a pretty well to do town, but never really fit in as they didn't have all that much money kicking around, and thus we sorta stuck to ourselves. what was odd was being around these old money types at this reunion, For the most part people seemed pretty friendly, i did notice that as soon as we got through telling people who we are/what we do, folks seemed to then file us in the "worth talking to further" or "move on" buckets. it was sorta amusing to see how quickly it took them to decide if they really wanted to know anything further about us.
what really struck me was the percentage of women that had substantially older spouses. I dunno why, but for whatever reason, i seem to have a pretty limited peer group in terms of age...and it just struck me as weird to see that the majority of these women seemed to be Mrs. so-and-so/wife #2. alas perhaps that's just what happens in these circles, older divorcee stock broker guy picks up the late 20's woman and starts a new. I dunno i know it happens all the time, but it just go under my skin for somereason, seemed sorta creepy. i suppose in the end it's none of my business.
