hello there,it's friday,and just wanted to start a conversation with some of you guys out there. do you remember the first time you listened to a "non-commercial" band. do you remember what you "cut your teeth" ,on? how old were you ,and how did it make you feel? did it empower you kowing that, over the crackle and pop of the vinyl, someone out there shared the same mentality. i was twelve years old, it was the early 80's around 83ish 84ish. my friend let me borrow a thrasher magazine and the all time classic suicidal tendencies tape. after listening to that i was transformed forever there after. i knew that there was more than what i saw or what was sold or told to me. it was so fresh new and "different", people, thats why i loved it. through out the years i've cultivated my relationship with this thriving subcultural creative "thing" or scene or whatever you want to fuckin' call it.( i'm sorry i curse way too much). like any relationship, it's a balance of love and hate. i love you all for the creativity, diversity, ability, and raw energy that you are. i hate that way you treat each other at times, none of us are better or worse than the other. i want you to have my babies.i'm glad we met....... OH! here are some of the bands that i used to listen to(and on occasion, still do)! die kruzen,d.r.i.,corrosion of conformity,killing time,voivod,celtic frost,neurosis(pain of mind),flux of pink indians,crass,subhumans,half life, naked raygun, dag nasty, scream, government issue, septic death, the accused, poison idea,dr. know, battered citizens, ten feet tall,the damned, the bad brains(of course),egghunt, marginal man, judge,sheer terror,leeway,rest in pieces,(early)prong,soul side,(basically most dischord bands from 1986-87 'till today.)rights of spring!!!(emo before emo was,"cool"!)shudder to think, nation of ulysis,the make up,embrace,all,three,ignition,all jamaican ska from 1960-66(that shit is their answer to our early motown explosion!!! fuckin' tight work!!!OH YES, ALL EARLY MOTOWN AND THE BLUES!!! that shits amazing, makes me proud to be born american, i'm serious guys, no bullshit. anyway i can't possibly think of everything. i love you all, you can change and mature, but don't ever forget that i still will always love you. i'll always be here for you......

anyway, it's turning into a big whatever to me. i've spent years working as a drummer in funk and r&b bands. is my sense of rhythm natural or learned? i never saw a baby play drums. i've seen black kids and white kids who could smoke me at age 8.
racism blows chunks, agreed. as i said in my original post to alisa, there's no place for it in my world. have a good day yourself.
