Part 2
“We need to turn around and go back to my house. I don’t know if I turned the fireplace off, and my parents would probably be mad if I burned down the house,” you said just as we were pulling into the Barnes and Noble parking lot.
After an internal sigh, we went back.
“Turns out I did turn it off!”
Once we reached the parking lot, for real this time, I turned to you and said “I got something for you.”
“What? Really?”
“Really, really,” I replied. “I wanted to get you something that symbolizes our bond, our friendship, and unconditional love for each other. Something you can look at any time you’re down, and be reminded that there is someone out there who cares deeply about you.” I proceeded to pull out the box from my jacket, and put it in front of you. “It came across my desk, and as soon as I saw it, I knew that it was totally you.”
Excitement grew on your face as I continued to speak. “So I picked the best one I could find, and had it rushed so that I could receive it today.”
I opened the box revealing a necklace with an opal jewel wrapped in silver branches from a tree on the back of it. You let out a gigantic gasp.
I handed you the box, and you took the necklace out. Then you realized something...
“This is...this is the same necklace I wanted when I worked there! How did you know? And how did you know that I love opal?”
“I don’t know. I just knew I guess?”
You held it up in front of your face. “It’s so beautiful... I’m never going to lose this.”
You put it on, and held the jewel in your hand. “My aura is opal. Like I saw it. I was high on psychedelics one night, and I saw it.”
“That’s...awesome...”
“Yeah!”
“It is funny that this necklace found its way to you through me.”
“It is.”
You gently rested the jewel against your chest, and turned to face me. I smile. That’s when you jumped out of your seat and into mine, and embraced me tight.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”
Pressed up against the door, I reply with “Thank you for being you.” I gently put my arms around you. After a moment that feels like forever, we let go, and go inside Barnes and Noble.
You wore the necklace with the opal jewel wrapped in silver tree branches every day, and every day that you looked at it, you would think of me...
...and smile.
