Well tonight I had the pleasure of getting to see a screening of Doctor Sleep ten days early thanks to Fandango.
If you’ve read the book you know that Doctor Sleep is obviously the sequel to the much loved and revered “The Shining.” Now growing up everyone who followed the film adaptation knows that Stanley Kubrick made some big changes to Stephen King’s source material much to the fury of King himself. In fact the two hated each other after the film came out. So fast forward to the 90’s when King had a huge hand in the made for tv remake version which was longer and in some ways even better. Yet of course, not fully capable of what it could’ve been with ABC network restrictions.
So, having said that, Doctor Sleep both the novel and film, without spoiling anything was such a perfect way to wrap up so many things that the original didn’t include in the film and some answers that were much needed for making this sequel perhaps one of the best sequels that’s ever been done. Now no I’m not saying it’s the best sequel ever, but certainly one of them.
Ewan McGregor and the entire cast is fantastic and there are so many nods to the original you’ll find yourself feeling nostalgic. So although the Shining was made nearly forty years ago, Doctor Sleep was well worth the wait as a worthy addition to the Shining’s long lasting legacy. Do yourself a favor and see this movie. Shine on. #redrum #shineon
