Of course, I chose this title for a reason. I don't like to get political on here because this is like my escape, a way for me to walk away from the world and its cares while dreaming of beautiful people and reading posts of like minded individuals. In a way, though, there is no actual escape from reality. We can be philosophical and ask, "What is reality?", but honestly, that's a bullshit question. See, reality is the world as a whole. The Midwest farmer to the Middle Eastern......see I can't honestly say what kind of life or job embodies that man or woman from the Middle East. This is a dilemma because how am I supposed to know the State of the Union if I can't even tell you what 3.1% of the world's population (90% of the news cycle) is embodied by?! It's not just people from the Middle East, though. See, I'm white, middle class, (secretly bi-sexual), "straight" (to most that know me), male in Indiana. Besides the fact that half of my family is mixed race, I don't know shit about other cultures or life styles. Although I have sympathy for the plight that others have and are going through, I can't honestly put myself in their shoes. I haven't been there and for the most part I never will be. One of the reasons I will never understand the plight is because most of the people I know and associate with are exactly like me and think like I do. This doesn't mean, though, that I should ever stop trying to understand. We must push ourselves beyond our comfort zones to these places where there is discomfort and maybe a little pain. There is the place where we might hopefully find it in ourselves to have compassion for the immigrant, love for those of a different or no religion, and a place fro those with no shelter. I know that I don't have all of the answers but the State of the (World) Union sucks and now it's up to us to straighten it out and make it a better place in the future.
