oh man, that blows. one time i drove all the way to missouri to buy a bug from this guy who was a friend of a friend . i got to his town too late to pick the car up so i got a hotel room. i called the guy to let him know i was there. the next morning, i call to arrange picking up the bug, and he tells me that he sold it to someone else just an hour or so before i called! what the fuck!! not being discouraged by that, and determined to have that car, i manage to track down the guy he sold it to and HE agreed to sell me the car for double what he paid for it. so he gave me directions to his farm, which was in the middle of nowhere, and another 2 hours away. so i finally get to his place, and then HE tells me HE doesnt want to sell the car!! jesus!! so i came back to toledo a little wiser and a lot pissed off and with no bug.
however.......i DID finally get a bug, and its way better than the one in missouri. and i know that same thing will happen to you. i know youre bummed about loosing this car that you had your heart set on, but another one will come along when the time is right, like my bug. it was like god arranged for me to have that car. it was the exact year i wanted and it just showed up at the right time...i had the loot and the guy wanted to get rid of it fast cause he needed to finance another car project.it was magical. i managed to get the model year i wanted for an awesome fufking price. so have faith....you WILL get your TA. it will just show up when you least expect it and everything will fall into place.
82 TA? Know the feeling... worked on one (OK, SEMI-worked on it..) for a couple of years... never got it going.. thing was too badly abused by a former owner. (You don't wanna even KNOW what he did to that engine... )
Anyway, it's been gone to the salvage yard for several months now... did hang onto the set of the 15" turbocast rims I got hold of when I was assembling the restoration parts. Those things are too hard to find, and it seems most people replaced them with something else. Also have a full set of the hubcaps, plus 1 spare... and a full set of fiberglass replica caps. Keeping them around in case I ever get the 82 TA bug again....
Oh... hope the thing doesn't have T-tops... 82s had a very weak system for holding them onto the car... I've heard so many tales of one of those things flying off on the highway... ow...
