Minor, but hopefully influential, changes going on. I got rid of cable, which, for a TV junkie like me, is quite a radical move. I've hated Comcast for years, and with the money I'm saving, I'll eventually put that towards my apt. building's required deposit for a satellite dish, but in the meantime, FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, I AM FREE AT LAST. . . . to catch up on my unwatched DVDs and more Playstation2.
I'm also rededicating myself to paying more attention to sports, most notably the Vancouver Canucks and the Yankees' end of / post-season play. I know, there are many more important things in the world than beer-fueled encouragement of partisan competition and alpha male domination, but compared with politics, at least its something you can enjoy with the family for an afternoon game. Anyway, I haven't been good about following the Yanks for quite some time, and they were a team I grew up watching. Likewise, I used to follow hockey more closely when I was a kid, and I miss not having those favorite teams to cheer on throughout the year. So here's me trying to recapture some of my childhood (presumably to pass on to my eventual children).
But alas, times change, and things never stay as they were. My brother's 1-year wedding anniversary is coming up soon, which I'm anticipating rather dubiously. He's my exact opposite in personality -- reserved, businesslike, and sometimes judgemental. I attribute it to a rather sheltered existance and a lack of engaging the world outside of his interests. He married a rather fervent Christian woman, and thus he's become something of a Bible student. Not that this is bad per se, but he recently witnessed to me in an email, encouraging me to not give up on finding God or close my door to Christ's effects on my life.
And granted, for anybody who's read to this point in the journal, red flags of republican policy, guns, flannel, and bible imagery, and abortion overturns are popping up. I was kinda concerned about that too, but my bro assures me that such is not the case, and I tend to believe him. He's got a good head on his shoulders, despite this general religious move that I have a tough time relating to (but not a tough time respecting), and his concern for me and what I'm going through in my life came from a place of brotherly love.
I do admit, I am a bit concerned about the influence his wife is having on him, as are Mom and Dad, but then I'm reminded that he and I are in control of our own lives, and nobody else's. He should be allowed to go in that direction if he wants. I certainly go in mine. I do think it may cause more of a gap between us, but I shouldn't resent him for it. Even if we continue to be supportive and caring brothers, which I expect we will, our lives will go in VERY different directions, and in that respect, I'll end up missing him.
I'm never gonna be able to keep up with all the new sets, but big ups to cool imaginative sets from Q and Fractal, and smokin' sets from Amielle and Rhys.
Go Yanks!
ps - Matisyahu played at the House of Blues on Thursday and absolutely rocked it. Never thought I'd see the day when there would be BODYSURFING at a REGGAE show where the headliner was a HASIDIC JEW. With diversity like this, don't tell me we're not eventually gonna have a lesbian female half-Black, half-Latina Buddhist-converted President.
ps x 2 = Apparently, the military was testing out some rockets over LA on Thursday as well. Oh boy don't I feel good about THAT one! Check out the photos of its spiralling jetstream here and here.

Okay, (A) what a shitty time to get rid of cable: Carlito's Way is on USA RIGHT NOW MAN!!!! What's that smell? Sasso, man: 'used to be Ron! You are so missing out, my man. Sean Penn + afro & paranoia from coke habit = fun times.
(B) I must hear about the crazy Sybil crap your brother pulled. He did the bait and switch, right? 'Told you he wouldn't talk about the religion, then lured you into the house in order to force a Biblical intervention on your ass. You won't be showing up at my door asking if I know Jesus, will you?
Good luck with you and your brother. My dad went through something similiar to that when he first got remarried, but after a few years he managed to tone down again.
