Ever wonder what happens when Young M.C. is not so young?
It looks like this.
Late last week, I attened an unfortunate benefit show for the family of Tone Loc's brother / manager, Johnny G. The good news is that Loc, Young MC, Digital Underground, and Coolio all performed. The bad news was the fact that this was on the heels of Johnny G's passing a few weeks earlier.
I can't claim much to this sad death, as I think I only gladhanded the guy once in passing, but I will say that I'm proud of my friends for making things happen as they did. I think the whole thing came together just at the last minute, and the place was packed. And although it was a fun experience to see these cats whom I'd grown up with in Hip Hop, the real important thing was coming out for a good cause. My girls did good yo.
Tired of not having time to write a better update. This just ain't up to snuff, but its better than the same shit from a month prior.
Mixed reviews on UFC 60 huh? I'm probably the only one that enjoyed the Diego Sanchez / John Alessio fight, if only because of the suspense of the third round. I used to hate Diego, but he's become such a clean-cut heel that I've become a big fan. Let's face it -- the kid's got skills, he loves his God, and although I doubt he realizes it, he's got the "it" factor that gets people to react. I just doubt he intends to be a heel. But at some point in life, you gotta shake whatcha mama gave ya! THE NIGHTMARE IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!! Conversely, Alessio should not feel like he won that match.
But in the end, it's the WFA show on 7/22/06 that really captures my imagination. MMA's about to turn the corner.
Ugly Duckling plays Safari Sam's today. New venue, new stage show. I should be more psyched than I am, but I expect to dig it once I get there.
Brother and his wife were in town. No blow ups or incidents, but I have confirmed that these are not people with whom I have anything but a respective blood and legal connection. I feel bad about saying it, but I have better things to do with my time. Like be alone.
Tested and earned my blue-with-green-stripe test in Kempo Karate. Man, what an easy test. I couldn't believe it -- we probably tested for half the time it took for my standard blue belt test. Of course, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
I was down to 214 late last week, although this past weekend has nullified that progress. Lots of beer, eating out too much, and BBQ wings not just yesterday but today has done its fair share of damage. Time to get back on the wagon. I might be farther away from 185 than I was a week ago, but I'm still on the way, dammit!
I don't know why, but I'm stressed and feel like my back is up against the wall. Nothing to do but keep on keepin' on, I suppose. Sigh.
Peace to the sets this month from Tita, Fractal, Lacey, LizaRose, Monica, Eliska, Kensington, and Sash. Like whoa, ladies!
