Almost had a disaster.
Sitting here working on my essay/listening to music/reading blogs and I smell burning. Just a little bit. I ignore it, because I live above a Chinese Herbal Medicine place and they are always brewin' up strange smelling things. I go downstairs for a smoke, come back to my desk and the smell is so much stronger. I'm starting to think something else is going on. I go downstairs and check the oven, in case the flatmate left an element on or something. Nope. Head back upstairs, sit down and the smell is almost unbearable. I start walking around my room sniffing things. Horrible thought that I've some how ruined the MacBook Pro, and it's on fire on the inside. But it smells fine. Unplug speakers. Unplug phone charger. Smell isn't going away. Resume room sniffing. Definitely gets stronger on one side of the room. The side of the room that the lights are on. Look at light fitting. Horrified to see that a painting I had hung above the light fitting (far enough above it that the heat wouldn't burn it!) had fallen into the light fitting. Even more horrified to find that there is smoke! And where there is smoke ... Remove painting, take it to the bathroom ... consider running it under water but don't want to ruin it, so just suffocate the burning. I was about to go out and get food! I could've burnt the apartment down!
Needless to say, the other part of the set, which was hanging above the matching light fitting at the other end of the room has been removed.
