Finally hit the road up to Mammoth Lakes California which is 6 hour drive from LA or SF depending which pass is open. Heading north on the 395 passing small towns in the process when you hit Big Pine with the annual Mammoth Mountain beanie you're almost there about an hour and a half to be exact.
Passing Bishop it's a straight shot to Mammoth about 50 miles and 2,000 feet elevation to base camp at 8,000 feet reaching the city of Mammoth Lakes you know you're close when you see this beauty in all her glory Mammoth Mountain.
Fortunately my brother Robert has lived in Mammoth Lakes for over 20 years and purchased a condo last year with his wife Brittany and son's Bobby & Joshua. So that means I have a place to stay. π
Arriving at the 'Blue Roofs' we unload our gear and head to Samurai
The new local sushi spot that opened last year. Of course we had a few (3) pitchers of Asahi
Mixed with some saki shots which I can't remember how many I consumed. π€·π»βοΈ After Samurai Brittany took my nephews home to bed so I my brother Robert and sister Becca headed to Distant Brewing Company (which was the old Mammoth police station no joke) across the way. I drank Opaque NE Hazy IPA, why you ask? Because I like 'em juicy. π
After our pints we linked up with my brother Gabriel and Ava (Becca's husband) to Mammoth Tavern
Which is hands down my new favorite pub in town. I decided to go big and get my favorite libation an Old Fashioned
Some times it's a Manhattan depending on the mood. I had another beer and we called it quits to gear up for riding in the morning.
Waking up in the morning (with no hangover) we suit up to hit June Mountain which is 15 minutes away Mammoths sister mountain which is a lot smaller and not much terrain, but it's totally worth it because smaller lines and my nieces Riley & Madison were learning how to ride. They now have 3 days under their belt and still learning. Unfortunately June Mountain hasn't been dumped on in a few weeks so you have to take a chair lift to get to the base of the mountain.
My sister Becca nephew Bobby behind me on the lift. Bobby decided to ski that day. Here's some photo's of our day at June.
Here's a crazy alien cloud on the way up the hill it gets crazy windy being up 10,000 feet.
We usually have an unwritten rule take 3 runs have a beer not sure how we came up with that, but it works.
I had Juice Monkey IPA from June Lake Brewing which is down the hill. That's June Lake behind me.
Finishing off the day with another hazy we wait in the lift line to head down the hill and make it back to Mammoth.
Timing is everything.
When we arrived back to Mammoth you have to do some apres ski which means more Mammoth Tavern.
Waking up the next day we do it all over again my nieces were burnt out so it was just my brothers and I same rules apply 3 runs and a beer. Also they opened up a new wine bar mid chalet at McCoy station sad to say Dave McCoy (Founder/Owner/Legend) passed away last week 105 years young so we rode and celebrated in his honor.
Sorry to say I don't have any action shots because I forgot my selfie stick along with a few other key items. Hoping Mother Nature will work her magic and dump some serious snow before winter ends. π€πΌ Will do a snow dance in the process and keep dreaming of a powder day. Heading to Hogwarts for a Harry Potter Party my old band mate is throwing tomorrow so that's it that's all for now. Maybe next blog will throw some photo's up from the event.
Til next time...
