Was up late last night. My roommate's father is part of a group semi-professional hecklers called the Rogues Gallery that go to our Renaissance Festival and give the performers a hard time. It's done with love and respect though, never malice. And every year they hold a barbeque for the performers in their honor.
So anyways, one of the performers at the Ren Faire is a celtic music group called Tullamore. They're local and often play at a pub called O'Malley's. And I really like listening to them. Problem is the only way to hear them on a regular basis is to go to O'Malley's and that's an hours drive. Not that appealing since I don't drink and don't know the regulars that well, so I'd only be there for the music.
So Dan, one of the Rogues, rented out part of the local VFW hall (which is just down the street from me) so they could play there. So instead of big noisy bar we got to listen to them in relatively cozy atmosphere. There was maybe two dozen or so folks in the audeince. It was so awesome. The music was good, the jokes were funny, and watching Dan, Pat, and Larry get trashed was amusing.
Oh and they let the audience pick songs from a list for them to sing. And I was the last one to pick before they took a break. I chose Danny Boy, and to my surprise everyone reacted like I had made the best choice in the world (especially Dan, though I can kinda figure out why he feels a connection to that song). I had only seen them play one time, and I don't think played it then. Well apparently it's a song they like to play last in a set, and they did a beautiful job. Mary, who sang it, was in tears afterwords.
So after it was all done me, Mike, Matt, Greg, Kenner, and Teresa all went to Perkins and got stuff to eat and BSed the night away. Probably one of the most fun evenings I've had in a while.
