This November will be an interesting one.
2004 was probably in my lifetime the most important presidential election. The new-found alertness on terrorism, the dwindling dollar, and the war were the most important aspects. Lucky me, being 18 years old. A kid. Being asked by my country to cast a vote in an election that meant so much my first time being able to. After the wave crashed and the water receded the circus that is American Politics already had their guys and gals for the next election... I turned my cheek. I wasn't going to get caught up in shit that wouldn't mean a thing 3 years from now. As far as I was concerned I still had to deal with this douchebag for another 4 years.
Well... here we are.
Terrorism, global warming, oil prices, the still-dwindling dollar, and yes the war. Nothing has changed, all has gotten worse. Is this election now the most important? Some would think not. Others would say definitely. Some say it is purely based on race. The prototypical old white dude versus the new age young black man. Yea a milestone for American Politics if Obama wins. Believe me though it'll wear off after a week or two. He's a human like everyone else. I for one don't believe that this is a crucially important election. Whoever is the president-elect after that day in November will only be starting the cleanup of the mess that was eight years of President George Walker Bush.
The economy will boost as soon as the election results are revealed whether McCain or Obama win. Why? Because it won't be George at the helm of the floundering ship we call the United States. Sounds very pessimistic, I know. But you have to think it's the truth. McCain is the most liberal you can get while having the republican name-tag on. I really like McCain. The man has been serving this country whether it be with a gun or in an office since before my age. He's made many sacrifices and went through a lot of hell for this country, and I respect the hell out of him for doing it. He's done things and went through stuff I would never do.
Obama on the other hand is not a bad candidate by any means. He is the shining light of change that I believe this country needs right now after such a quagmire. The slow change process of McCain may be the smartest, but the drastic changes Obama could bring might work the best. The American people like drastic change. We don't diet to lose a pound a week, we diet to lose 10 pounds a week. It's not the healthiest, but its the outcome we enjoy the most. Like that metaphor?
Right now I find myself voting for Obama. This summer will be a long one though. Things happen, you never know. The good news is that no matter who wins, we're in good hands.
