Oh boy.
I'm so bored.
I need to get laid. Or some sort of sexual activity where I'm not both the initiator and the key roleplayer in the end.
I've never been one to download a lot of music. Even for being in a band and stuff I don't listen to much music. I have three bands that are always in rotation in my car... and it is usually a seasonal thing. Millencolin in the summer, Rammstein in the fall, and Alkaline Trio in the winter. That's about it. So I downloaded Limewire anyway. It took me 2 times because the first time I tried to download I clicked "i might use it for downloading copyrighted materials." Hell I thought they'd love me for being honest. Thankfully they don't know how to work cookies, so I hit the back button and changed the selection and downloaded fine.
I immediately tried to think of a band that I don't listen to much but love when I do. Weezer! So I went and found a tracklisting for a Weezer album, downloaded every song but one and because of that I can't crack open my new spindle of CD-Rs I got 19 dollars off at Rite-Aid. I'm trying to think of other bands but I can't. I don't like to just listen to music unless I'm in the car. I love to play bass along with songs (since drums are kinda hard). That's why I have Millencolin and Blink downloaded.
I also don't want to go on a download rampage because I'm always the guy that gets caught with this type of stuff. My friend has a whole networked 500GB harddrive filled with songs and albums. Thousands upon thousands of songs. Not one knock on the door or letter in the mail from the RIAA. Yet I know once I reach 400 songs (their minimum) I'll be nabbed on the spot. The RIAA mimimum used to be 130 songs, but people started to complain about paying 10s of grands of dollars for 130 songs when there are people who are literally stealing full feature-length films that won't come out for another 3 weeks and selling them in mass over the internet.
I blame Lars Ullrich.
It's a hideously old debate, I know. But I never had an outlet for my thoughts. It all comes down to greed. Lars Ullrich is a multi-millionaire. Bands make their money through touring, which Metallica is known for touring for time spans of years. So yes, he worked really fucking hard making that money. Truth is though, he DID make that money. Nothing can take that away. You're set buddy. You could try to make the same argument he did for the not-so-known bands, but they LOVE it! When my old bands were rocking we were fucking THRILLED when we would search for our songs on Napster and they would show up. People are going to buy the music no matter what. Most of the songs on the internet are shitty versions anyway. If I like a cd that I download I usually buy the cd for the inserts and stuff.
Reminds me of the time when I got Mark Hoppus to sign my burned version of Dude Ranch. He laughed about it, which is good. I figure he knows when he goes back to SoCal he'll sit on his $40,000 toilet and realize that my CD-R isn't worth the pencil shavings in his old pencil sharpener in a box in his basement.
I need a shower.
