The more I think about about it, the more I realize how Bush's War on Terror will be the ultimate demise of this country. It's not exactly my generation's Vietnam. No, because we aren't dying by the hundreds every day. It's like the Vietnam War because it's a conflict that has no definitive end without us leaving with our tails between our legs. Which makes me look bad, but I don't want to leave with our tails between our legs either. Believe it or not I still have pride in this country. I was for the Afghanistan invasion, because the terrorst group that claimed responsibility (i know the name, but not trying the spelling) was located quite publicaly in Afghanistan. Where the Taliban came into the picture I'm not sure, I didn't pay a lot of attention until the Iraq stuff came out.
Although I regret my decision now, I was for the invasion of Iraq, and so was 80% of America, with the 20% residing primarily in Greenwich Village. They can spout the "i told you so's" and I'll admit they were right.
There comes a time when everyone finds out that Santa Claus isn't real. So sorry if I broke the news. And also during a lifetime you figure out you can't trust your government. Well that happened to me. I was a young naive kid. I wasn't a fan of republicans before Bush got "elected" in 2000. After 9/11 everyone looked to him. And he did what everyone wanted. Revenge. Then he got greedy and tried to finish his daddy's business in Iraq. I was naive at the time to think that when the president says something, its usually true, or the facts.
I grew out of that quick.
So now we're stuck in Iraq fighting everyone. I'm not fans of the Iraqi people either. They parade us taking down Saddam and then not even 3 months later they're parading for us to leave, as if they'd have the place under control themselves. The whole deal is, we do the dirty work and you adopt our democratic republic ideas. If we left 3 months after the invasion ended the shiites and sunnis would be slaughtered by the thousands daily, the kurds would be mostly slaughtering sunnis, but still, slaughtering. No police, no army, no leaders, "cats and dogs living together, complete anarchy!" (I <3 venkman)
Then the insurgents. Our terrorists. Their freedom fighters. I don't care what they are, I'd like to see them dead. Fire a mortar at some 19 year old kid who is just trying to pay for college, and I believe you deserve to die. Radical, yes I know, but this is why I'm not so left I'm falling off. People can protest the war, but don't protest the soldiers. They can't refuse to do anything. And with the Abu Ghraib shit... When you're at work and under stress you might do stuff like break pencils or crumble up paper and try to play basketball. A war is a bit more stressful then anyone's job. So what they did was make a bunch of inmates make a human pyramid. As if no one has done worse. I'm not saying they should be allowed to do that, I just think it was blown out of porportion. And to make up for it, the Army handed out ridiculous sentences. Without the media coverage, they would get a talking to, and that's it.
The beginning of this rant was anti-war on terror and ever since I've been supporting it.... I should probably get to my theory.
This war has set America back more then 9/11 has. And now that we can't leave without shame, we're gonna try to stick it, even though everyone in every office in Washington knows they're in a shitty deal. They just don't want to have to be in office when the shit literally hits the fan. Bush's approval rating got so low, to make it look better they started posting his 93% disapproval rate. The trick is that readers will see the large percent and read fast enough to only see the recognizable word - approval. It's a psychological trick. I learned that in psychology.
Anyway this war, not just Iraq, but Afghanistan and where ever else we've got our guns pointed is draining funds that could be going to better places. We're talking money in the 80 billions. While all that money is going somewhere, our soldiers don't have armor. Our friends are leaving us to face this by ourselves and we can't. It will get to the point where we are being killed by the hundreds every day. Unless...
America can win this war easily. Diplomacy is in the way. Weeks and weeks of air strikes, artillery, and troop rushes could win this war and either A. kill or B. scare the jihad out of the insurgents. Only the crazies blow themselves up. Most of them are actual people who will run away. What it takes is a complete barrage. A blitzkrieg of epic porportions. Show the world America really means business in the war on terror. But it will never happen. Diplomacy. Diplomacy!
The "collateral damage" in that kind of operation will be heavy to say the least. It wouldn't be pretty to with the numbers. But war isn't like it used to be. The media can get places the US Marines can't. And as the superior power, America has to fight a war with no civilian casualties. They have to fight clean. Sometimes you gotta fight dirty. Bunch up the weapons, grace the Gods of War and bring em hell in a 45 caliber shell. It will get the job done, but we won't.
The best bet then is to just pull out, let them civil war themselves into the 3rd world and make nice stories about it to put in history textbooks. Either go for the gusto or bust. There's no good game. But this doesn't make sense to me! War is war! War isn't a hockey game! Why are there referees? When the object of war is to kill - ending the earthly life - of the opposing side, how can there be rules? I know I sound like assholio numero uno, but seriously! If I'm tortured, but they liberate the base and I'm freed, that guy gets life in some UN prison. Where's the justice? They should be captured, interrogated, then injected in the head with lead.
Boy I'm bloodthirsty tonight aren't I?
I'm afriad I'll make many enemies on this site with this post, to those who read it. But I'm seriously in a mood tonight, I never think like this on a daily basis.
I forget what I was even trying to prove. I need a cigarette.
I quit 4 months ago.
Maybe I need a girlfriend. Someone to confide in, eh? I'm sure these bloodthirsty lusts or death would be much less if I had some estrogen to love.
Any takers? I'm a rockstar... I play drums. I'm also a hockey player! I'm a goalie. I have bruises and welts and I don't think they hurt!
