And just like this I have returned. That's right I've been gone for about seven months, although I'm fairly certain many had not noticed. (I have a habit of forgetting about people that fail to update after about 37 seconds.)
Seven months. SEVEN - in the persian gulf. After all that time only one thing has changed: I have finally made the switch from boxers to boxer briefs. I tell you I enjoy the support AND roominess. Good combo fruit of the loom. Moving on, I'm sure you're more interested in other happenings:
Well, I'm stationed on the USS Ashland. It may sound familiar. About two months ago a couple of dude who Ala picked out fired a couple of rockets at us. It was all over the news and whatnot. To tell you the truth - it was really anticlimactic. We ran away. But how you ask? Well, the rockets were from the holy wars and the did not detonate. It's true - I saw King Arthur's crest on them. Plus, the strategic geniuses these guys were - they missed. Yep. Missed. A 604' long x 90' wide grey floating object. They missed. Three times. Sorry, I just can't get over that. I feel kinda bad for them.
ANYWAY...
Well, I'm back now and am catching up on pop culture. Batman Begins kicked some serious ass, as well as Sin City. Did I miss the announcement that comic movies are going to be good now? Who made this decision? I'm not complaining, but I also did not see it coming.
ANYWAY...
Alkaline Trio played Croc Rock (Allentown) last nite and kicked some serious buttocks. Well worth seeing them on this tour. Try for a smaller venue though. Oh and don't go expecting one or two songs. Their catalog is much larger than most people think. The person I went with (who will remain nameless) was disappointed due to lack of pre show pumping up. So before you jump in that '83 Tempo held together with your bumper stickers: get your head in the game.
Now for my recommendations for listening and reading:
READ:
American Gods - Neil Gaiman
Killing Yourself to Live - Chuck Klosterman
LISTEN:
Tristan Prettyman - "Twenty Three"
Mike Doughty - "Haughty Melodic"
James Blunt - "Back to Bedlam"
Motion City Soundtrack - "Commit This to Memory"
Ok Go - "Oh No"
Bright Eyes - "Digital Ash In a Digital Urn"
