Hey SG Crafters!! was trying to post this in the Crafty Thread but it kept giving me issues grrrr... so here's a blog instead :D
So my amazing friend @lalou will be going on a trip down to Cape Town soon to shoot with @puffin.
I'm so excited for her I decided to make her a SG Tote bag to carry her things in to the shoot :D and cause chicks dig bags!! ha!
Decided I should make a tutorial on this, cause it was super duper easy to make. took me around 2hours. If you decide to make a tote bag please post your pics would love to see if anyone tried this :D
You will need a general knowledge of sewing and fabric painting to complete this bag!! ::::
What I used::
basically I used 2 squares of calico material (for front & back size is up to you)
2 squares of (any) black material (for inner lining - must be same size as front & back)
I went to my fabric store and picked up some thick woven belting for the handles
cute heart ribbon, about 6cm
thick transparency (for SG Stencil)
Fabric paint and brush to apply
and sewing machine.
I printed the SG logo onto the transparency, along with SOUTH AFRICA and a heart to customise the bag for @lalou , then I had a bit of help at my print shop lasering out a stencil, you could cut it out by hand aswell if you have the time!! Then I applied the stencil to one of the Front calico squares using the fabric paint and brush. Remember to always heat set your fabric paint after it dries otherwise it fades when you wash it!!
bag construction!! It's alot easier than you think!!!
First I sewed up the lining in black, remember to sew 'inside out' , if that makes sense, right sides of the fabric together and all hems on the outside of the bag lining....
then sew up the outer calico shell with fabric painted logo, right sides together and hem the top!
here's inserting the ribbon on a side seam:
here's pinning the handles:
When you turn the bag the right way around after sewing, you should have something like this::
you insert the lining shell into the bag and just sew around the top seam all around. easy peasy!! :D
Match up the seams!..... be careful not to sew the bag handles to the bag, you will need to do some serious unpicking (-_-) haha
On Tuesday, @lalou comes to visit for some girly chat time and lunch and I can't wait!!
I will be making us some yummy fruit salad and ice cream and giving her the bag!! She is a much better model than I am so I will get her to model the finished bag and post up a pic!! :) thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed my tutorial, if you need help feel free to message me and i will help if i can
<3 happy sewing!!!!
xoxo
