K seriously, who paid for my account? I wanna know!
So it's been almost a year since I was here last. In fact I actually came home the night of the SG book launch feeling all good and shiny about meeting new people such as the lovely Charity and PeggySue only to discover my account had expired and I couldn't at the time financially justify re-activating it.
So what's been happening with me the past 11 months? A whole lot and nothing really.
The Crappy
I spent the early part of the year in a hideously unproductive and depressive slump. Following that I worked for a spell in a market research call center until one day a couple of months ago when I up and ragequit. I also got dumped by the Mrs. a few weeks ago which continues to suck. She also infected me with glandular fever (which you strictly cannot drink alcohol with also) which I'm now in the tail end of so it's been a pretty shitty my birthday + Christmas + new years period.
I also spent far too much money on video games this year once again. Probably more than any year previous actually. Which is only bad because I should be using my money for stuff like moving out and having a real life.
Blerg.
The Awesome
I started a little indie 'for love, not money' media company with some friends called Privateer Productions (follow us on Youtube!). We did coverage of the 2009 eGames video game expo here in Melbourne as a kind of a test bed for stuff we want to do in 2010 and we were all incredibly proud of what came out and it was deemed a big success. Privateer also produced it's first original internet series, a pop culture discussion, debate and quiz series called The Lobby to a decent amount of success which through some weird and random circumstance I ended up becoming the host of. We got the opportunity to wrap season one live on stage at eGames in front of a big crowd too which was a (seriously hungover) thrill. Part one of the finale I'm gonna embed here even though my mic is fail in it.
I also discovered I'm more of an attention whore than I previously thought. Hah!
I had the pleasure of attending the annual Game Connect Asia Pacific game industry conference in December and made a great number of new friends and got to see several old interstate ones again. I also had the pleasure of meeting (and getting quite drunk several nights in a row with) Bajo and Hex from ABC's Good Game and their producer Syd who are all incredibly awesome and gracious people.
I also got to kick Bajo's arse at Street Fighter IV which he then went and whinged about on the internet.
Most recently I became a writer for long running Australian pop culture website Space Meat, my first little article having gone up this evening.
Um, yeah. A whole lot of stuff and nothing at all.
I wanna change my name on here to Jamwa coz that's what I'm known by everywhere else (and in fact a lot of my real life friends call me that in person too) but I don't know if you can change usernames on here anymore..?
Anyway, a friend is texting me telling me to come pick her up and go for beers so I'd better wrap this up.
I'm gonna be up in Brisbane from February 19th until the 22nd with a mate if anyone wants to say hi. Going to see the mighty Clutch play at The Zoo on the Friday night then probably drinks with the Australian Gamer folks, hopefully at The Mana Bar if the boys can pull it all together in time!
It's nice to be back. It's like visiting an old friend.
