The first half it wasn't even close (really almost 60 minutes). Celtic were by far the better team and could have potentially gone up more.
They "let" DU back into the game with some stupid mistakes, and then your team went on to capitalize and earn a draw. I don't think by any means DU was the better team by a long stretch, unless you are just talking about the 2nd half, and not the entire game as a whole.
The throw in that actually led to DU's second goal was the wrong call as that linesman was horrible ALL game.
He missed I think at my last count 2 wrong offside calls (1 for DU and 1 for Celtic) he missed Boruc getting a touch on a DU shot in the first half that should have been a corner for you, and he gave DU about 5 Celtic throw ins.
Absolutely horrid. His bad call for the throw in setting up your second goal still does not excuse the horrible defending that led to it, or Feeney's finish, which was well deserved. So its not "the ref's fault" at all. It's Celtic's for defending like complete balls.
It's just a shame that these refs and linesmen are still making 10-15 completely blown calls a game and that this continues to be the standard in Scotland (and now one is actually going professional....I'm sure that will help haha).
Just not good enough. Disappointed, but since the board refuses to strengthen the team, you get these results because the team did the same thing at points last season that they didn't in the first two under Strachan where they put teams to the sword.
Congrats to DU though, two well played goals, a remarkable comeback and a deserved draw.
Cliched? NFL Football? SAY IT AIN'T SO! I have this conversation with my friends all the time now, where when you watch a sport for so many years, really the commentators (unless they are your own local commentators) say the same generic things about the teams year in and year out. Little sound bytes of the stories you've heard 50 million times and the same information about the teams.
Which is why I usually put on the Minnesota home broadcast in favor of the national tv commentators, who just don't really know what they are talking about in depth. It's not their fault you can't cover 32 teams, but that doesn't mean I have to sit through it!
When I was living in Toledo I received both the Cleveland Indians network feed and the Detroit Tigers network so I watched every game when they played the Twins. After about the 4th "they just play baseball the right way" comment I wanted to smash my head against the wall. Lucky me I sat through 36 of those games!
Oh, I think DU looked great in the 2nd half, that's why I say I think it was more a deserved draw based on the balance of play throughout the whole game. Once it went 2-2 I didn't really have a feeling DU were going to seal the game winner. I figured it would be Celtic would either score or not and it would end a draw.
Naylor is horrid, and Wilson picked up an injury. Caddis (while a very good prospect) is still not really ready to play as a right back and actually be defensive against a good team like United. In fact, Strachan would rather play him as a right midfielder because he doesn't believe he has the size to stay at RB.
I've always had the philosophy that more often than not a Rangers or Celtic team has trouble adjusting to their wing back play in Europe. In the SPL 10-men-behind-the-ball football, they are usually needed mainly to start attacks and put crosses in, and not for defense. So, when one of these teams actually plays someone in Europe (or in this case an SPL team that can play really well i.e/ 0 You, Hibs) they can get caught out because they almost don't know what to do.
Naylor was partly at fault for that 2nd goal, and he's been really...the main target of fan phenom all season (and rightly so).
Like I said in my first post, it just shows that you actually have to get in quality so you can force a good team like DU down and not let them coming storming back into the game. The Board as really refused to do that on many occasions. In my time supporting Celtic I don't really think there has been a left back since Tosh.
Everyone else has been a crap stop gap, or a right back played out of position. It's a complete joke. I just wish they'd spend the money and get someone there who can play there for 3-4 years and we as fans wouldn't have to worry about him fucking up constantly.
I'm ALL for you edging Rangers! The problem is, chances are they are going to steal away some of your better players over the window (I'm pretty sure they are linked with Wilkie) or another team will develop and essentially cannibalize your push for a top 2 place.
By the way, I got a few new books. I bought the "Anyone but England" one you recommended and I went out and bought two new soccer books: "Beyond the Curtain" and "Passavotchka".
Oh, and sorry about your Blackhawks. I was hoping they'd beat Detroit.
