It's not a place that comes to the lips of those wanting to vacation or move to.
10 years ago If someone wanted a place to go, I'd say, ''Don't come to Buffalo!''
Lots of changes since then. Companies of all kinds are starting to notice.
Just over the past 5 years lots of companies that never set up shop in Buffalo have moved in and set up shop. Restaurants(Chick-Fil-A, Sonic, and some others that recently came) retail stores(Cabelas is really the only one I care about), manufacturing(think Amazon and Tesla) lots of craft beer places have set up shop here in Buffalo. Here in Buffalo, the breweries are aplenty. You can have a 6 pack everyday of the year and never have the same pack twice. There are other businesses that have set up shop here too.
Then there's Canalside. There's a music festival every weekend in the summer that used to be free but became a huge pain being free with the overcrowding and rowdiness so now there's a cover charge of like 5 to 10 bucks. I guess there's a lot to do in the Summer at Canalside. So if you come here in the summer you should check it out.
Also and this isn't in Buffalo but in Western New York so it's considered to be Buffalo, they opened up a multi-million dollar comedy club in a (small) city south of Buffalo. In Jamestown NY. I guess some big timers have been there. Jamestown is the home of Lucille Ball (the tv show I LOVE LUCY). Check out their website https://comedycenter.org/
Hollywood has noticed us too. They've sent crews out to say hi and that dude from A Quiet Place place was just here scouting for his next movie John K something. Ninja Turtles shot a few scenes here a few years ago. In fact we made a new business to recruit Hollywood to come here. The silver screen has come here and just shot two movies in a small town just outside of Buffalo. This all started happening after one producer or director or whoever made a comment about ''Don't do business in Buffalo." several years ago. Hell just last year that big show that came out with all those singers...wtf is it called? Girls love the show. AH! American Idol. Yeah they had the biggest turn out ever in the 17 seasons they've been on the air, when they came to Buffalo. Yeah Hollywood! Cowabunga Dude! lol.
Then there's the sports fans. You'll find no other fans more loyal or hopeful then Bills fans. HAHA. These guys are fucking hardcore. Over here you get shot wearing a Dolphin's jersey. I know from experience. Kidding! When the Cleveland Browns helped the Bills get to the Playoffs last year, the quarterback's foundation got millions of dollars in donations from Bills fans. He got more in 1 month from us then all the years he had the foundation from Cleveland. Yeah these guys don't fuck around. This is hardcore fan territory. There's even a Bills ice cream made by Perry's. And many more foods dedicated to the Buffalo bills and Sabres (hockey for those that don't know). Here in Buffalo they hang two flags. The american flag and the Buffalo Bills flag. They've made slogans: BILLS MAFIA and ONE BUFFALO (that was made when one dude bought the Bills and Sabres) Oh there's the singer that wanted to buy the Buffalo Bills but wanted to move them to Canada. Jon Bon Jovi. His music has been banned on the radio and store shelves since 2014. Yes don't come here if you like the singer haha. Actually I don't think he's banned per se but I'm not sure. lol. FYI, I'm not a Bills fan. I'm the arch rival's fan The Miami Dolphins baby! :) Nor am I from Buffalo.
Then there are places that has always been here. Like Letchworth State Park. (Grand Canyon of the east) You really should visit if you come to WNY. https://letchworthpark.com/ is their website. Then there's Perry's Ice Cream. Best tasting ice in the world. Oh baby! 'Life's a bowl of Perry's.' is the slogan. They make 52,000 flavors. Okay I'm kidding on how many flavors. But they have many. There's also Sahlen's Hot Dogs. If you don't like hot dogs, you will after tasting Sahlen's. I used to hate em until I was force-fed Sahlen's. Now I love em and only buy Sahlen's. Then there's Upstate Farms milk. Great tasting milk. Better then California's milk.
Then there are the foods that are unique to WNY. Beef on weck is roast beef on a kimmelweck rolls that are topped with caraway seeds and salt. People either eat it plain or with horseradish sauce and dipped in warm Au jus. Then the buffalo wings. No Jessica Simpson, buffalo cannot fly. lol. These are chicken wings dipped in sauce and they taste great. These are just two of many foods unique to Buffalo.
Now we get to affordability. Buffalo was ranked by some magazine a year or two ago as being the cheapest city to live in. (cheaper outside of Buffalo). I pay less then 500 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment and less then 100 bucks for electric. I don't know about other cities but to me that's pretty cheap. Reliable cars with under 100k miles go for less then 5k at used car places. We have all three chains of dollar stores here. Family Dollar, Dollar General and Dollar Tree (where everything is $1.00 or less).
Yes Buffalo now has a little bit of everything. Also we have a saying in Buffalo, ''Don't like the weather? Wait a minute.'' Everything is green here. With the green comes the rain. There's actually very little downpours of rain here. More of a sprinkle. Yes we have snow too. Lots of snowmobilers here. Several ski resorts. And golf resorts as well. lots of countryside with clean fresh air. Rarely gets above 85 degrees. Several MC clubs. Lots of hunters and woods (or forests for you southerners). Lots of wildlife. Deer and squirrels aplenty.
There's a mix of republicans and democrats here in Buffalo. So lots of opinions on things. Lots of diversity too. Also plenty of jobs here now. Good paying jobs. In fact, minimum wage here is 11.10 an hour but most jobs with little to no experience pay more because they cannot find workers. Yes there's a shortage of job seekers here so if you move to Buffalo, you can easily get a job the same day you show up.
Okay this blog has taken me several hours to write and my fingers are tired. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
As always, thanks for reading. And enjoy your stay at SG Land!
