I am so bored that I just noticed, sitting here with my head in my hands wondering if I should write something or turn off the computer, that the "Control + whatever" functions are written on the undersides of whatever key. Blah!!!

What did Lorelei call me? Somber? Hrrm. Well, maybe she's right.

You know, when I started this blogging thing a little over a...

"i won't dance in a club like this..."

i'm sorry that your new years eve was not ideal!!
being the des. driver especially on that night is crappy... our driver was getting stoned all night but we didn't mind. heh...
i'm not sure where you can meet any new, good people of substance.
the library? hmm....
i would say, go to newfoundland again if you enjoyed it the last time. it sounds wonderful.. but how does one manage to slip off a cliff??? and i never thought that hanging from a tree root was possible, like you always see in cartoons.. smile
i get the chance to do some travelling myself this spring... i'm so excited! we're going to bangkok! i get to watch 'the boys' play a 3 hour set for a bunch of black tied executives, and we're staying for a week! i'll be in heaven!

sorry that i've been so lazy with writing.. i've been doing it to everyone, even my closest sg friends! what can i say? i've just been getting high and being lazy too much...
i hope you are well.

I have very little to write, though I have a lot to write about. Actually, I dont even remember what I have written in the past couple months. Anyway, I think Im just posting so that my journal doesnt become absurdly dated.

I have Janes Addiction playing right now. I mention it because it is the first album that I have listened to since the...

Hey Jake, that Croatan website is really well put together. I love your image viewer! How'd ya do that? Don't suppose you'd lend me the code? heh.. I'm working on another band site - one of the guys in the BFTCH's other band.
And yes... my life definitely doesn't center around SG. Heh. It's more like a part time hobby... I have way too many other things going on in my life for it to center around one scene..
Hm, I should do freelance work except that I honestly don't have the time to take on more projects than one or two band projects every couple months. I work full time at my regular job. Sorry! But I'm sure you'll find some good graphic kidz.

Oh thanks for the tip about the email spiders.. I was just lazy. But I will definitely check out that code.

That tour fell through, unfortunately... they'll just be playing their usual local shows for awhile I think. Once in awhile they do something out of town though.

A new girl week is starting! Maybe it'll finally be my turn! Keep an eye out... wink
lorelei:
hehe... i understand the craving for information. sorry, i do do that a lot, don't i? either i'm just lazy or i like people to figure it out on their own. hehe. but that's mean of me. actually, i was listening to a radio show and someone from the electric prunes said it. but i'm not sure who from the electric prunes. i was just listening, and when i heard it i said "sweet!" and copied it down as fast as i could. hence i missed who was saying it. smile

thank you for that code, i hope i can get it to work, that picture viewer is just awesome and i haven't seen anything quite like it.
no, i don't have a mac though. so i can't help you there...i'm always wondering the same thing about my sites.. i don't have access to a mac at all.

also i took your advice to heart, thanks--i try to be careful but i probably do say more than i should sometimes. the reminder was welcome.
smile
i hope you have something enjoyable to do on new years eve... you always seem so somber. i wish you good fortune in the coming year.

Yeah, Im back! My membership expired last month, and I have had an even more extraordinarily difficult time getting my student loan refund than usual, so I had no money to pay rent, much less dish out $50 for a web site membership (regardless of how great a deal SG.com offers). Nevertheless, I was thrilled to see that I could re-join the sight and not...

Thanks for the spider explanation. I am in Michigan at the moment so I think we are facing the same beast.
Additionally, you are still too old to be my brother, Shane MacGowan or otherwise.
I feel like explaining the meds comment I made. I am the only member of my ENTIRE family that is not seriously disturbed. Seeeing family deal with that stuff left me as a sympathizer for those who have to take them. However, I take it too far and won't even take aspirin. Eh
lorelei:
Hey there Jake! Sorry it took me awhile to respond..haven't been on here as much lately, I've spent hours just now just catching up with my journal friends.
The thing in Pittsburgh I was talking about in my journal was an sg halloween party. The burlesque tour doesn't start until january I think.. Are you going to see it at any of its stops?
I'm not sure what this tent is you keep referring to though! Oh, perhaps I mentioned that we ate at a restaurant that had a tent set up on an outdoor patio for us, because we had such a large group.
Funny that you had a dream about me! I had a dream about another SG last night.. but one that I've never met or even talked to here before! Isn't that odd? I would guess though, that the dream you had about me just symbolizes some kind of fear you have of women that they will all be predisposed against you.. or something.. Or perhaps not..
But either way... I did enjoy your complex dream analyses. I try to analyze dreams now and then, but if I can't determine the gist of it from my initial first impression, I don't spend too much time thinking about it. smile
But, as I was implying, it is pretty strange to have dreams about people you've never met. You're the second person on SG, who has never met me, to tell me you've dreamt about me. And the other person had hardly talked to me before! Is this unique to the internet age I wonder? Nah... probably not.
Congrats on your first paying design job. I'm glad to hear you are happy (or at least you were when you wrote that entry!)
As for your ex-wife, I think it is time to move on. Accept what will not ever be again and find something new to take its place.

I havent logged on to SG for a while and it looks like Ive been missing out. New sets from Scarlett and Rose, and even a first from Loreleis friend Lucia. Everytime I go away for a while, they start posting some really great sets.

Ive had no choice but to nearly kill myself working. Summer quarter ended Friday and I still...

and i enjoyed reading your other posts in that thread too.
When making a pledge to the good ole' USA, one endorses, either actively or passively, the violence the state must use to maintain itself.
-very good point.

lucia's set was wonderful wasn't it? (and you should see her in person....yowwza!)... yes you're right, it was photographed by her lover. we are indeed 'kept in the dark' about when we're going up.. but i guess that adds to the excitement. i wouldn't want to know exactly when i am going up...i only hope it won't take much longer!

"misandrist"... thank you, i never knew the word for the opposite of mysogynist. i think i know how you feel though, a couple of my guy friends are the same way - make nice gestures in the efforts to become friends with a girl, but the girls usually interpret it as a come-on. sometimes you really can't blame them. i blame the guys that have in the past made them become that defensive..
that being said, i myself rarely say no to a free drink... smile

i can't believe you actually got gummo! i know how disturbing it is... i had trouble getting through the whole thing. retards, gay rabbit harrassment... it's a little much. still, i would probably watch it again.. its like that 'car crash' cliche.
too bad to know that The Van is out of print.. maybe i can find it on ebay or something. hurray for fish and chips! welll...just the chips for me of course, being an herbivore. chips with vinegar... occasionally even curry sauce. not that you can get that here.

don't worry about taking a while to reply...as you can see i do the same sometimes.

After this long, hard day, I intended to jump into a hot bath and then crawl straight into bed. However, stupid me, I started poking around this site. the story of your friend is a sad one.. life is indeed cruel and sometimes you feel helpless trying to make sense of anything at all. it's chaotic.. and the only sense i can make out of it is that it's just a cycle of beginnings and endings and rebirths. figuratively and literally.. friendships and loves, family, etc.. without the emotional gains and losses balancing each other out.. perhaps life would be simpler, but we wouldn't learn much. i don't know.

on a lighter note, referring to your memories of cleveland, yes, during the past couple years i've learned to appreciate this city more for what it is. there is more here than meets the eye i think.

Schiz'd out in Ireland.... must have been the weather.
or maybe the flagons of cider..

yep, lived in ireland half a year, got a temp work permit even though i ended up working as a counter girl in a very shady chinese takeaway that never asked for any type of legal docs, and paid in cash at the end of the night. haha. it was hard to find a *real* job.
i would love to go back, but only for vacation this time.. i got really depressed for awhile when i was living there because some things weren't working out.

oh yeah, understanding people was no problem, save for the drunk old men at the bus station trying to get me to share their can of cider with them. biggrin

re: roddy doyle books/films.
you've never read him? the books are so much better! (as usual). especially if you've been to ireland.. it's easier to appreciate the dialogue and humor. i've seen the snapper, and the commitments of course. i want to see the van but the library doesn't seem to have it.

A tree fell on my house last night! eeek

Did you have an enjoyable weekend?
Mine was anticlimatic, as usual. I did make about 60 bucks at my garage sale though, can't complain about that.
hmm.. your description of autumn does sound appealing.. and i do love thanksgiving stuffing! however i'm afraid the feeling of plunging towards darkness will always depress me a little. not to mention the dreaded winter electric bills. smile I'm just a summer girl! I love tank tops and flip flops and short-shorts. Swimming and running and lemonade and ice tea..

Sorry that link didn't work. I guess you can't access it that way, you have to actually go to the page and click the link there. That's dumb... Anyway if you want to check out some pictures of them, go to http://www15.brinkster.com/kgregory
the live pictures are at the bottom - I think the one I was going to show you is the very last.

I know what you mean about new-band skepticism.. Everything good's been mostly done before.. and most of the time I'm too lazy to seek out new bands, and sift through them for something that's actually good. I just stick to the tried and true, with some exceptions.

I have read about half of Behan's 'Borstal Boy', but I think my "Jaysis"s mostly come from watching episodes of Father Ted, reading Roddy Doyle novels, and living in Ireland for about 7 months. smile

ugh..back to work.

Im sitting here listening to The Pogues CD I got up in St. Johns, NF. <B>Streams of Whiskey</B> is what its called, and it is recorded live in Switzerland, 91. The sound quality is only marginally above bootleg. Actually, that is unfair the only problem with it is that the volume keeps changing. This is only a problem because it is 3 oclock in the...

Oh wow, a fellow Ohioan! Maybe you WILL make it to one of those shows. smile I was thinking UK because of the kettle-speak. Heh. I don't even know that many Americans that even drink tea!
I myself, am a lover of tea as well.

Actually, I think I found your profile by doing a search for members using the keyword "pogues"... (pogues this, pogues that!) And then when I saw your Shaney Mac profile pic I had to comment!

no, robinbanks plays the fiddle & tinwhistle in the band. and i have no idea where he got that username! i'll have to ask him.. here is a picture that will illustrate what i said about doug: http://www15.brinkster.com/kgregory/smDCP_0621.jpg
bad teeth to boot, though you can't tell in that picture of course. smile

no, i don't have "acid teeth". (haha, that sounds funny... "i don't have acid teeth!") if you think it's good i would be interested in hearing it, or a few songs.

'charting moods' sounds like a bunch of ka-ka to me! but i have a general distrust for physicians of all types..

do you have any sites you've done that you'd be proud to show me?

36-48 hour day?? JAYSIS!
robinbanks:
First of all, I'm sure you'll be happy to learn that we are including about five songs from Spider's solo career.. in the middle of the set, with a stripped down band. Should be cool.. AND it may be the only opportunity to see him play these songs live, judging by the luck he has with maintaining a band. Also, it should be a good opportunity to meet him too, if you're interested.

I saw the re-united Pogues last year at the London Fleadh Festival (Joe Strummer was on the bill too). I had the opportunity to watch from the side of the stage and drink with Shane afterwards... one of the more interesting experiences of my life thus far. Although I was sitting at a small table with him and four other people all evening, I didn't have much a conversation with him, partially because he was so out of his mind from the various substances pummeling through his veins, and partially because I didn't have much else to say besides, "wow.. you're the best songwriter ever.." He knows that and doesn't need to hear it from another fan. Nonetheless, it was cool just being there.

As far as my attack goes.. yeah, I agree with you that we are constantly pumped full of fear and this irrational fear serves a purpose. Speaking personally, I was a bit frightened to be outside of my house these past few nights but this fear has quickly subsided. I'm glad for that. I have too many other issues on my mind to worry if I'll be a victim of some random thug in the future..

What else?? oh yeah.. my opinion on the Cincinnatti riots. First of all, it's my opinion that violence of any kind is unjustified except in cases of pure self-defense and unless all other means of resolving a particular issue have been spent.. With that said, I still *understand* why a black guy in the middle of a race riot would shoot a gun at a white guy. It's not an effective or justified way to resolve a problem, but I realize that "humans are humans" and, as such, they have breaking points. And, if you treat a group of people like complete shit for long enough, it's a reasonable prediction that violence will erupt. I don't care what some people may say, violence is a part of our nature as humans and we need to understand that chronically bad social conditions will inevitably bring out that violent side of our nature.

Geez... wasting way too much time here at work. I'll send you a few MP3s of "The Boys.."

Later,
"robinbanks"

the Pogues are my #1.. some guys I know are in a Pogues cover band -The Boys from the County Hell-and they are SO good. I'm currently working on their website.

That little ditty is some old obscure country song - See the film Gummo (if you aren't easily disturbed!) and you'll hear it in the opening bits. And I've always wondered where there is a guinea pig that says "paderack". smile

Never heard of the Brave Little Tailor! But I like the sound of it.. wink
