I'm going to ask you a favour.
Here's a link to an issue that is very near and dear to me. It's a petition for immigration reform in the US to end discrimination toward legally recognized same-sex couples. What does this mean? Committed, binational, same-sex couples, those who have been legally married/united in states or countries where it is possible, would be able to come to the US the same way hetero couples could. For instance if you are a US citizen, you can sponsor your non-US-citizen spouse to come live with you. If your spouse meets all other requirements (things for public safety mostly- criminal history and health), they are allowed to come be with you in the US and work, etc. If you are same-sex partners, you can't do any of that-- even if you have a perfect bill of health, a clean background, an amazing relationship, a fantastic education, and lots of valuable skills to contribute.
This issue hits very close to home for me. Same-sex couples would *not* be getting any special privileges or exceptions-- it would simply allow equal standing in situations where the relationships are legally equal (say, a couple legally wed in Canada, with one US and one Canadian citizen).
Open your heart and give a hand! Please sign. Edit to add: The deadline is October 28!!!!
