In high school, I spent the better part of four years in love with one girl.
We sat near each other because our names were alphabetically close, and we developed a sort of strange friendship that was half brilliant (for high school) philosophical conversation, and half painful lopsided unrequited love. At least that's how it was on my end.
Four years of sitting behind her in my classes, talking with her, madly in love, but too young and afraid to say anything. She was too cool, and too pretty, and too popular, and I was too nerdy, and too socially awkward, and too afraid to talk to her about how I felt.
Fast forward Ten Years.
Then I ran into her back in my hometown this past Sunday. She just got back from doing legal work in Peru (!?!). She's at least ten times as beautiful as I remembered. She's grown up to be this beautiful, brilliant woman.
And now we're going to go get coffee tonight.
My boyhood fantasies of going on a "date" with her are finally playing out. Ten years later.
I'm 14 again.
I'm actually nervous.
I don't know what to do.
