THE LUNCH BLOG
So here's a first in a new series for me- the daily documenting of my lunch. Whether made by myself, oot- and- aboot, takeout, or a reheated old can of beans, I will attempt to periodically describe my midday culinary delights.
Today's Order:
Burger, medium, w/ American cheese, hold the pickle, and fries.
From: Bistro 535
I have a very love hate relationship with this restaurant. The owners and management are friends, which makes me want to support them, but the food is usually mediocre at best and the service can be downright suck. Not in a mean way, just inattentive and poor.
Today was carryout, 10-15 minutes. I arrive after 15 minutes and have to wait. Hmmmm. *tap tap tap*
Finally it comes. Now I had also asked for ranch on the side for the fries, as I am taking the wife's cue and avoiding High Fructose Corn syrup, so no ketchup.
I get everything back and-
Pros
1. no pickle
2. ranch in the box
3. fries (those frozen from sysco coated "seasoned" fries) nice and hot and crisp.
4. cheese, letuce, tomato, and onion where they are supposed to be.
Cons
1. ALL the condiments are in those little foil packets. I hate that. Come on people, I just paid 8 dollars for a freaking HAMBURGER, you can put the mayo ON the thing, or at least class it up with plastic souffle cups.
2. There's 350 condiments, not just the mayo and ranch I had asked for, including the ketchup I has asked NOT be included.
3. this burger is most definitely NOT medium- black on the outside, it is firmly in the "welldone" category on the inside.
4. as the fries cooled, they tasted more and more like grease.
Restaurants seem to want to make up for poor quality with quantity these days. 3 potatoes must have died for my fries alone. And the time I spent waiting must have been the time they used to burn it. While the cons are pretty petty, it is pretty difficult to be inattentive when there are only 3 tables at weekday lucnh, when the kitchen should be at it's most prepared. Was it the worst I've ever tasted? No, but certainly not the best. Will I go back?
*sigh*
Yes. But not this week.
Overall quality 6 stars of 10.
