I've bought a bunch on new music lately. Well, new to me at any rate.
1. Wire- pink flag
2. Alternative TV- the image has cracked (a compilation)
3. great Big Sea- play
4. Stan Rogers- from coffee house to concert hall, from freshwater
5. New York Dolls- new york dolls
6. Schoolhouse rock- various doing the songs
7. Saturday Morning- various doing cartoon theme songs
8. Crain- heater
9. Sonic Youth- experimental jet set, etc.
I write about this, because I have been sitting here listening to lots of it. best of the bunch? Wire, and Crain's Heater, by far. I don't know where Wire has been all my life. Of course, I've heard other gazillion other bands cover 12XU, Wire themselves- wow. Listening to the song Dot dash right now, and I can't quit groovin in my chair. Awesome.
I've also been listening to June of 44's Engine takes to water ep a lot too. It's got me hooked. So if you know of anything in any of these veins, give me a shout. I'm looking for more. the Great Big Sea is a bit of a let down- I'm a huge fan, but this is basically a wieny studio version of live stuff I like much better. And the Stan Rogers has added very little, though I really like his version of Leave her, Johnny, Leave her.
Alas, all this makes me want to play rock music again. Folk/trad is great, but sometimes I just miss the balls out loud ass guitar, drum, bass, primal scream combo. i need to rock out and soon.
Or have a beer fueled hootenanny.
So i guess i need to get the amps repaired and find some musicians. I've mulling over buying this one smaller amp, the Vox Valvetronix 30- good sound, inexpensive, nice effects, at least partially valve driven, quite enough for practice, loud enough for rehearsals or recording. I just came make the last step- sometimes I'm a woos about spending money. I'll nickle and dime myself to death, but not stump for the bigger item that I KNOW I want, sometimews NEED. I don't know which is better- spendthrift on little but thrifty on big, or buying big but thrifty on little. Hmmm.
I've been thinking lots lately about agriculture, marketing farm products, war and the military, oil and commodities-- ranting later.
