The best Bourbon in the world is Basil Hayden's 8yr. Distilled in Clermont and Frankfort Kentucky, deep in the heart of Bluegrass.
For those uninitiated into Bourbon whiskey:
Only whiskeys distilled in Kentucky can be called Bourbon.
Like Roquefort cheese, to be called Bourbon a whiskey must be distilled and aged only in certain ways.
Bourbon can be made only with corn mash- very little wheat or rye.
It must be aged at least 7 years. Some is aged as long as 20 years.
It must be aged in single use charred white oak barrels. Barrels are sold to wine, beer, and brandy makers after their one use as bourbon barrels.
I'm not a huge 'straight liquor' guy- I love rum... mixed. i've always liked Bourbon...mixed. But this stuff rocks, over ice or with a bit of water, even neat.
