...Cuz When I Drink Alone, I Prefer To Be By Myself....
Current mood: drunk
I watched Be Kind Rewind the other night and I was disappointed. I really enjoy Michael Gondry's style and tone of his films but this one just didn't click. It took me a few days of thinking about it to figure out what it was. It wasn't the writing though the plot line and ending could have been fleshed out a bit more, no what I couldn't get into about the film was Jack Black. He plays it too wacky for the rest of the tone in the film. Gondry tries this sweet community coming together movie with the premise of everyone in the neighborhood coming together to recreate their favorite movies that were erased by Jack Black being magnetized. But the zany Jack Black role that he plays in almost everything he is in just doesn't fit for what Gondry was going for. Gondry is best when he is taking the sublties of everyday life and exploiting their cartoonish qualities yet still keeping the movie low-key. With Be Kind Rewind, he cast a real life cartoon in Jack Black going over the top with energy that throws off the rest of the cast's performances, making them seem almost dull which shouldn't be the case because Mos Def does a great job playing the straight man. It could have been a really good movie, but with all the Jack Black-ness that goes on in the first half of the film it makes the last half transition to this community coming together seem quite jarring and unwelcome. This had real potential but didn't come off as well as I had hoped. Maybe Michael Gondry will hook up with Charlie Kaufman again for the next project.
Shit, let's see what the fuck else I've been up to... not alot actually. I'm stuck on what I should paint next in my painting class. Thus far I've painted the canvas black as a base. Where to go, where to go.
I've been riding my bike hoping to work out the burn in my legs.
I have tickets for Mike Doughty on March 22, Vampire Weekend on April 3 and The Bouncing Souls on April 30th. I just heard about Kate Nash playing on May 3 and The Kooks playing on May 31st. I really don't want to miss the Kooks, its strange I've become a bit of an anglo-phile lately with Kate Nash, Jamie T, Lily Allen, the Kooks, The Pipettes and Holly GoLightly playing in heavy rotation. I forgot that Nada Surf was playing I think on April 3 the same night as Vampire Weekend. Too bad all the best shows are scheduled on the same night, like The Loved Ones are playing the T-Rock the same night as Mike Doughty. Tomorrow night I don't know whether I want to go see The Black Lips at First Ave or Crystal Castles at the T-Rock.... decisions, decisions.

My mind has been all over the map recently, its just been going fucking berserker. Up, Up,down, down, left, right, left, right, B,A,B,A select, start. Its like my thought process has parkinson's syndrome, all shaky shaky and whatnot.
These fucking mice in my walls are driving me bonkers. I'm woken up atleast 6 times a night with the scratching and the clawing and the squeak squeak. I put out rat poison and mouse traps covered in peanut butter but no dice. Maybe they don't like organic peanut butter. Choosy mice choose Jif.
The springtime itch is hitting my pretty hard. I just want to put away my winter coat and soak up some natural vitamin D on other parts of my body besides my forehead without going into a shiver seizure. I want to swim in Lake Calhoun and go canoeing and tube down Apple River and ride my bike to work. I got an unwanted fever and its not for more cowbell, its of the cabin variety and I want it to go away.
It has come to my attention that I've got a baby-dread formed in my hair, just one, I think it started out as a fuck-knot that has since grown into a baby-dread. Given the fact that I gave up combing or brushing my hair 6 months ago it was pretty much bound to happen. Curious to see where this leads. Though no way will I actually go all out and dread up all my hair... I'm not into Phish so a white-boy dread-head is out of the question. I'm not down with smelling like pachouli and looking like a complete douche. Atleast not anymore than usual.
Rocky Horror action figures arrived last week. Now if only my Bruce Campbell one would show up sometime this century.
baaaahhhhhh!!!!! fucking mice!!!!!
