Greetings to all!
I am here in the coffee shop right now, working on my latest drawing. I do people watching. It's intriguing. It's so cool to see people from all over the world with so many stories to tell.
Not this time.
There is a date going on at the table to my right, and the couple is perhaps the antithesis of my existence. The girl said she hates video games and seemed very judgmental about how people spend their lives playing. The guy seemed to agree a bit, though I could hint that he enjoyed a game or two from time to time.
I really try not to eavesdrop, but these two have boisterous voices that are impossible to ignore.
What really does it for me is the cats. She says she has a cat, and after two destroyed couches, she had it declawed. As in chopped off its fingers. She didn't rehome the poor kitty. I really understand the frustration behind the destruction, but don't maim the poor creature... :,(
They hate on the things I enjoy. They talk about how artists don't contribute to the economy. They hate on my favourite mixed drinks because they make you fat.
Each topic that comes up seems so... normal. They talk about buying houses and having kids. Just everyday stuff that society taught me I needed to be. The stuff I got made fun of for not showing interest in or following.
I continue my drawing, with transient attentiveness.
I am reminded why SG is such a safe place for me. You all are awesome. We shun the boring normal things for the exotic. We redefine life.
Wish we could all hang out and show these guys we can have fun too.
Keep doing what makes you happy, no matter what others think!
J
