New drawings are taking awhile as I'm playing around with ideas, so I'll post an old drawing in the meantime!
This is 𝗔𝗯𝗯𝘆, a newly hatched (at the time) 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹. The Disaster Pokémon, Absol are mountain Pokémon known to descend into populated areas during times of impending natural disasters.
In March of 2019, 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶 and 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗯𝗲 encountered a strange egg in the woods behind the University lab building. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗲 identified the egg as an Absol egg and determined the egg was laid the morning of November 30, hours before the 2018 Kinikki Earthquake struck Anchorage.
That morning, Absol inhabiting the Kangucha Range fled the mountains into neighborhoods of Anchorage to warn of the earthquake. The tremor struck at 8:30 A.M. and registered a magnitude of 7.1. The shaking lasted for 45 seconds and was followed by a 5.4 aftershock at 8:32 A.M. Damage was reported from around the city and surrounding region, but thanks to the Absol, hospitals, police, and fire stations were able to prepare minutes before the earthquake struck. Though officials had no time to warn the public, no significant injuries were reported.
Randi was working early in the Pokémon Science Lab when the shaking started. He reported a possible Absol sighting during his commute, but dismissed it as an illusion. He described the lab as if "on heavy seas" and glassware and lab manuals shattered and thrown about. He described "loud clattering and crashing sounds" inside the building. The shaking "seemed to last forever" before subsiding. The immediate aftershock scared everyone out of the building.
Abby hatched in mid March and immediately bonded with Randi. The Absol seems to listen very seriously to people's stories about the earthquake. Abby competed in battle in the 2019 Anchorage Pokémon Classic, and alongside Phoebe as a Kirlia, helped Randi take 2nd place.
Abby remains one of Randi's most loyal Pokémon. Though unborn at the time, Abby feels as if she rode out the earthquake with Randi.
