For 17 wonderful years, I lived in beautiful Pittsburgh Pa. When we lived in Penn Hills, one of my favorite hang outs, was just across the river, in Squirrel Hill. The neighborhood is a showcase - wonderful restaurants, smart boutiques, a thousand things to see & do!!!! Squirrel Hill has the distinction of being the city's historically Jewish neighborhood. I always felt like I was back in N.Y. when I went there.
Today, I am saddened to see hate & murder, rearing its ugly head, in that beautiful place. I met Fred Rogers in Squirrel Hill. A friend of mine was a friend of his, & got me invited to a meeting, where they appeared together. YEP, Fred Rogers is EXACTLY the way you think he is!!!!! - Humble, soft spoken, ever gracious, to everyone he meets. - After dealing with adults, Fred went to visit a nursery school, housed in the same building. A whole roomful of toddlers grabbed their heads, in unison, to keep them from exploding, at the sight of their dearest TV pal!!!!!! Of course, Fred got down on the floor, with them. He explained that he didn't live in the TV set, & that he was a real person, who lives in a house, like they do. Then, he took the time to greet each child. - Until today, my abiding memory of Squirrel Hill was of Fred Rogers, & those little kids. Lets hope, there are good memories, in the future.
